A comedy set in the summer of 1987 and centered around a recent college grad (Eisenberg) who takes a nowhere job at his local amusement park, only to find it's the perfect course to get him prepared for the real world.
This movie was not even close to how the commercials portrayed it. Don't get me wrong, it was a decent movie. It just wasnt anywhere near the comical aspects tossed around in the previews and commercials. I'm only going to rate this movie a 3/5 only because it's something I wouldn't expect to watch on any other occasion.
First off 10/10 Great movie. I've loved Kristen Stewart long before Twilight and It's good to see her doing other things beside that. Anyway I think it's a great story. Where the two main characters help each other learn something about themselves and grow as people. I need to add this to the DVD collection.
I love anything with Kristen Stewart in it. But some of the music brought back good memories for me. In 1987, I was 13, & that was probably the single best year of my adolescence. Lots of laughs in this one too.
I've wanted to see this since the first preview and it didn't disappoint me. I don't think Kristen Stewart is a good actress but there's still something charming about her. The main guy in this is great, really likable. Overall a nice paced story with interesting characters. 3.5/5
I hated Kristen Stewart until i watched this..i am officially a fan..i love this movie..soo much..absolutely loved it..i dont think it was all that predictable..and it made me laugh and feel sad and angry..i love love loved it!
i didnt think id like it..but i did.. im happy i took the time to watch this.its going on the faves list for sure! good job K Stew and Jesse..you made a fan out of me!
Adventureland is an endearing and entertaining coming of age drama that manages to please on many levels. The acting is real and the story so organic that most viewers will find at least one moment to relate to. The 80’s theme was a welcome touch and once things start rolling the soundtrack finds its place, with many good songs to meet and great you. These are the times when smoking joints, getting drunk and dancing at clubs and parties happened effortlessly, with each new night came the dreams of misadventure and the chance for romance.
Set in 1987 Pittsburgh, James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) is a sexually immature college grad who decides to take a job at a theme park to help fund his first term at New York’s Columbia university. Little does James know but this summer will be filled with wondrous moments that go beyond his expectations. He starts work on 'games' and you soon realise this is the job for nerds, while the cool kids work the 'rides'. However, despite the divide, James grounded personality shines through the social barriers that exist for others.
As for the rest there are plenty of stereo typical characters for the audience to relate to and the themes of sex, love and dating somehow threads them all together in a pleasing and sometimes emotional manner. The writing is thoughtful and engaging, allowing you to understand the characters and their own ideas. In some ways this is a toned down version of Superbad, yet it stands alone as an individual piece. Adventureland contains much good drama intertwined with comic moments at an absorbing pace that will bring back memories of summers past. I had an enjoyable time watching this and I think you will to. 9/10
What did you think of Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig. I thought they really stole the show. And Jesse Eisenberg REALLY resembles Michael Cera to his voice and even his comedy style. Although Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart aren't really funny in the movie. The comedy happens around them. But Yeah thought it was a really good movie and a great indie dramedy.
I actually think Jesse Eisenberg looks like Nick Jonas (of the Jonas Brothers) kinda. lol But the way he acts - kind of awkward - is like Micheal Cera.
I really liked this movie! I don't get how people are saying "it's not really funny.." I thought this movie was hilarious! Like,

when that one dude finds out that hats are glued on to the maniquin's heads in that one game.. LMAO
I give this movie 5/5 stars. Btw, to the people who say Kristen Stewart is a bad actress - WATCH THIS MOVIE & YOU WILL SEE SHE'S NOT A BAD ACTRESS! (:
I loved it. Kristen Stewart is a great actress, no matter what people think. And Jesse Eisenberg does remind me of Micheal Cera, but I don't really even care, because I love them both, haha. Oh, and who doesn't like them some Ryan Renolds, huh? Anyway, 5/5!
