AMISTAD is about a 1839 mutiny aboard a slave ship that is traveling towards the Northeast Coast of America. Much of the story involves a court-room drama about the free-man who led the revolt.
i had to watch this movie in school..it really is a sad story,,

the baby wasnt dead,, the woman looked around at the scene nd then bacc at her baby,, sat on the ledge of the boat nd leaned bacc so she nd her baby would drown..implying that she didnt want this life anymore and certainly not for her child
I absolutely hated this movie, but like some said before me, it's a story that needed to be told to make us people understand how cruel history has been, how cruel mankind really is.

I remember one scene where the woman has her baby on the boat and it's dead. I believe the woman dies along with it. They just toss her and the baby overboard. "Nothing special".
The inhumanity !! I also remember not being to sleep after watching this. I don't ever want to see it again.
If you're a fan of cruel movies, whether (about) real events or fiction, make sure you watch this. If you like history movies, go ahead and watch this. But to everyone who likes fluffy dolls and ponytails, yeah go mind your own.
to bad for us they don't make more movies like this one, wow its so good an very sad, very historical an necessary a story to be told, i saw this in the theater when it first came out, from the cinematography to the acting every thing gets a huge 10, its a must see form me:)

I remember catching the last hour of this on t.v. several years ago, and wanting to see the whole movie. But until today i hadn't so when i saw that it was here finally watched the whole movie, and i have to say this was incredible with really great actors who did an amazing job with what is a very emotional, moving story! A must see, and i know i'll be watching it again so it's going on my playlist with a 5/5 hands down!
i loved this film. i always knew this is a good movie. i didn't have the time to really watch it when it was released in 1997, but i always knew i would love it, and i do. great cast, great acting, great music, great everything! i hope people will know now, how important it is to be free..
W O W ! I wanted to see a performance from Mr. Hopkins and instantly got caught up in the story again. A great movie!! 5 ** Stars! Morgan Freeman is so awesome.
This movie is an excellent display of the horrors Africans suffered during the slave trade..As a descendant of slaves, it was hard to watch this however necessary as my imagination could not develop such images through reading.
Powerful performance by some of the actors but this one didn't make my list. A little choppy on story, would rather read about it to get the true feel.
I love this movie but I cannot understand why it is not in English. The one I had seen, and I believe this is the same one, was mainly in the English language. The only other language spoken was the African language of the Aficans aboard the Amistad. Is there something that you can do about that? Other than that, the picture is fairly good and once again, this is an excellent movie.
