okay we take an interesting artistic concept, throw in some very creative death scenes and add an aging actor playing the lonely grizzled detective role and we should get some great right? WRONG! this movie tries to be seven and ends up two mainly due to being incredibly slow and boring at parts, with no emotional attachment to any of the characters that by the time the end finally arrives you no longer care who the killer is or why they are doing it. and wasnt that deborah harry and mick foley starring in pointless cameo roles?
Creatively speaking this is a good movie. Thought I had it figured out but to my surprise I was wrong, which in the movie world we all enjoy. Overall it's worth a watch.
IT WAS GREAT,,ALTHOUGH I HATED THE ENDING. TO THE PERSON WHO COMMENTED THAT THE MOVIE DID NOT DO WELL TO DESCRIBE WHAT ANAMORPH IS.THEY DID EXPLAIN,WELL I UNDERSTOOD THE EXPLAINATION.THAT IT'S A ARTIST PAINTS A PANTING THAT YOU SEE ANOTHER IMAGE DEPENDING ON YOUR VEIW POINT OF VIEWING IT. DIFFERENT WHEN LOOKED AT STRAIGHT ON THEN FROM THE SIDE.
FOR EXAMPLE A BLANKET LOOKED ON FRONT THE FRONT COULD BE A SKULL WHEN IT IS VIEWED FROM THE SIDE.
THE WHOLE CONCEPT IS VERY INTERESTING AND I PERSONALLY DON'T THINK WILLIAM DEFOE COULD BE IN A BAD MOVIE!
This was no psychological thriller as the credits tout.. this was nothing more than a romp through the dark seedy imagination of human monsters! The blood and guts factor is high, and the psychology of the thing is somewhere between looking at a dead cow, and listening to a child scream for his toy! Movies like this only have one purpose, whether you realize it or not you are being dupped into watching this thing thinking it's only a movie. But what it really does is force you to look upon the face of evil and revel in it. Watch it if you want, sorry I did!
if you like thrillers with a twist this is a really good one. impressed even though it took a little while to reviele itself,but thats what good thrillers are all about, on par with saw 10/10 a one off
William DaFoe played a good leading role as a detective in this movie. He seemed to be addicted to liquid morphine thus part of the movie title when he put the serial killer's riddle together towards the end of end of movie.
The special effects were great throughout the crime scenes in this movie. I watched this movie intensely and was very disappointed with the ending!
So.. there were some parts that were interesting.. but that pails in comparison to how many parts that just DDRRAAGGEEDD on F O R E V E R!!..AND THEN.. AT THE END..ya have no damn idea what the hell just happened.. so.. it was a big let down.. thought if I stuck it out.. it might be worth it.. but NOPE.. total waist of my time.. hmm.. sad 2/5
I know everyone wants to see the new se7en..but when it trys so hard to be like it ,where its almost copying scene for scene.
OK if Se7en wasnt ever made..this would be very good
I have to agree with the crowd here..it was pretty darn boring..although I pretty much watched the whole movie. I kept thinking it will get better, but it never did.
Humm.. well, I felt he was the true definition of artist, a brilliant mad man.
Interesting movie, highly unlikely but interesting none the less.

While we don't really find out who he was or why he really did what he did to any depth I was odly fascinated with the artistic macabre set-ups he created. Pretty freaky stuff
This movie is not for anyone who needs to have a "fast Moving" movie to watch.It is abit slow,but it just wouldn't have workrd if it wasn't.I enjoyed it and would watch it again.I thought it was very neat.
This was kind of boring. It really was too slow. The ending sucked too. I wish they would have shown the victims while they were going through what they went through and not just what they looked like in the end.
A darkly macabre and engaging, albeit sedately paced, serial killer thriller. Nothing to write home about, i'll award it 3/5, just for s**ts and giggles.
This movie had it's interesting parts but it did almost put me to sleep. If you want to watch a 2 hour thriller with NO explanation at the end, then this flick is for you.
