Set in northern Australia before World War II, an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch reluctantly pacts with a stock-man in order to protect her new property from a takeover plot. As the pair drive 2,000 head of cattle over unforgiving landscape, they experience the bombing of Darwin, Australia, by Japanese forces firsthand.
I enjoyed this film. The cast were well chosen & the scenery was shown in beautiful cinematography. The portrayal of this story however, could have been directed far better, this was simply beyond the director's talent. Speaking of talent, the editor has none; this was the worst editing I've ever seen! It's a shame, because this could have been one of the greatest movies of all time. 8/10.
i loved this movie..it's one of the most beautiful things ive seen.. during the last few yrs we hvnt seen such things cmin out of Holywood..! Hugh Jackman plays a magnificent role and Nikole Kidman trully shows the meaning that things might be this way but it doesnt mean the should be!! :p cnt wait for another movie as great as this one!
I had been holding off for a while on this gem. I heard that it was good scenery but the plot was bad! But I always wanted to see this. If you liked Moulin Rouge, you'll love this. Although its no a musical its directed by the same guy. A heartfelt tale in which Hugh Jackman, and Nicole kidman really hit it off, and a great job by the little boy who just knows how to drive the movie into feeling the land. Living the land, and loving what he loves. After being in Autralia I can personally tell you this movie uses images that make your heart sing, and capture the wonder of possibly the most beautiful country in the world.
I was hesitant about investing the time to watch this film, but I am VERY pleased that I did!! Kiddman and Jackman are simply awesome, and the "boy" (who, according to the credits - made his cinematic debut here) was a REAL scene stealer!! Beautiful cinematography, well written, and -from what I know about WWII - VERY close to the accurate portryal of events. Well worth the time, good movie all around!! 4.5/5 (and I rarely rate films this high! ;) )
Friends have boasted about this film and now I've finally seen it. There were times that I thought it was ending, but for a 3 hr. movie it did keep my attention much like Dances With Wolves. If there's a good story to tell this would be one of them.
The first time I saw this film was up to half way cos thats where it ended

. I thought I only missed the last 2/3 mins. So I decided to check it out today. Boy was I surprised to find that I had actually missed the best half of the movie. lolol

PHENOMENAL!! Anyone who knows anything about the history of Australia, the history of the aboriginal people, and how well it is all implemented into this movie would take respect to this movie. I won't lie, there were times at which I thought the movie was going to end, but was so happy to see that it continued. The actors/actresses were perfect for each of their characters. Please, if you're so shallow to complain about some VERY minor graphics issues, then do your job and be shallow; but if you have the nerve to complain about the story, maybe you should educate yourself before you open your mouth.
i agree, there was a bout three different parts where i thought it was going to end, but i was so pleased the story carried on.
We got to see more of Hugh !!

one of the worst movie that i ever seen. too bad about the beauty of nicole. all filmed in studio, bad jokes, nothing to catch an eye..it is what i expected: 1/10
All films are filmed in a studio for at least a section of the film.. this was filmed in Sydney, Darwin, Kununurra, and Bowen. and Hugh actually fainted from heat exhaustion from the back of a horse making this film.
Personally i think this film was amazing and totally exceeded in entertaining me. 10/10
