When two brothers organize the robbery of their parents' jewelery store the job goes horribly wrong, triggering a series of events that sends them, their father and one brother's wife hurtling towards a shattering climax.
To my mind this was an excellent movie. Don't watch it if you really want to veg out. You've got to pay some attention.
This is not fast action. It's a little slow and dark, but not to the point of being noir. Anyway the plot, the scenes, acting, etc, all done very well. I rate this 7.5 or 8 out of 10.
this is an amazing film. It's really more drama than action i warn you. The characters are all v. well developed and the actors are amazing. The storyline is fairly predictable though but i love all of the characters. anyone know who played the effeminate drug dealer.. i'd really like to know the actors name.
A very well written story, with some impressive acting by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke and Albert Finney.. This is a very adult movie with complex themes, it has some action but mostly makes you think.. This movie shows that people will do horrible things for money and power.. 4/5..
yes this is a watch once only movie, but its a good one. this is a crime/drama, not a rambo-or goodfellas. i seen this on big screen first and couldnt go take a pee because i didnt want to miss the story. the violence i thought look realistic, the story was believable, you wont get the warm fuzzies watching this.. it sorta creeps you out if you get into the plot. the acting was great. the people who rated this low, werent into watching acting, they wanted to be entertained with non-stop action, or something.. this is an adult movie with an adult plot..
The movie didn't deliver what I needed it to.
The acting was decent, the script was ok..but overall..it could neve be anything more than an "ok" movie.
There was nothing special about it. Nothing that makes u wanna watch it again or even more so..Recommend it to anyone. It's a "time-passer" for those boring days when u have an hour or 2 to kill..
This movie is a bit slow, but the story is a great one. The acting is superb. This movie captures how greed and drugs can destroy you. Definitely worth a watch 3/5.
It is mostly in the family, that this white on white crime story is based on an insurance scam that goes horribly wrong. It is certainly plausible that out of foggy desperation these two amateur thieves badly plan a robbery that could offer relief from the other badly organized Office swindle. I like the play with the chronological story line. That technique shows each event as an isolated point of departure. Worth the watch.
Despite some negative reviews, I thought it was a very good movie - great actors and acting - it moves around but so do many movies today - it keeps one wondering what else is happening in the story and just how it might end - 4/5
haha, idk what everyone's talking about, i seemed to love it. i love anything with Philip Seymour Hoffman in it. My favorite actor. I just couldn't believe Philip would agree to do a sex scene, it's just not him. Hawke's acting was too awesome, i loved him too. Well, if you're bored, you can watch this. heehe. (;
soo freakin boring!! i stopped watching it halfway into the movie coz i couldnt take it anymore. i was really in to it at first but they kept going back and forth thru the storyline. so slow.. i wont watch it again.. i didnt even finish it the first time. 5/10
Many say it's hard to follow the plot it is not. The story tells you what period of time it is showing when it is shown. Don't miss out on this one. This movie is a raw look into how desperation can drive you to do things that you thought you might not do(well the charcaters not me, lol). The acting is superb and it makes you glad to have a simple life even if your poor. lol
Wonderful movie, wonderful acting by both Philip and Ethan Hawke, also by the great Albert Finney. I forgot they were actors they're so good in this movie. I enjoyed the past/present jumps that came back at different camera angles. This was an excellent first for screenwriter Kelly Masterson, hopefully more will follow. However, I think the sex scenes were too much and not really needed for this plot.
I have to say this is a pretty kool movie, sad but very well made, i like the way they keep changing from past to present and present to future.
4/5 or 3.75/5 worth watching indeed.
9.5/10. Some not so easily absorbed moments, but that's what this life can be about. A reversal on who is the real criminal and who is the judge. I liked it and think it is worth watching.
