The setting and atmosphere they've captured in this movie is brilliant, the score by Vangelis is amazing aswell and adds to it. It's slow in parts but it's a sci-fi/drama, with great acting and cast. The CGI are slightly dated now, as it was made in 1982, but definitely a classic with great attention to detail 5/5..
Great film directed by Ridley Scott..this goes nicely with his other sci-fi classic "Alien." Imaginative storyline, excellent cast and acting, and pretty sweet special effects for 1982.
Definitely worth watching..4.5/5 rating.
A film definitively ahead of its time. My only complaint is the undeniably 80's score, which dates it a little. But the story, characters, cinematography, all lend to a movie that is absolutely genius in its execution. Oh, and it's Harrison goddamn Ford if nothing else'll get you to see it.
Very well put.
And since a building needs four cornerstones to stand up, I offer Star Wars as the third cornerstone, as I completely agree with the two other ones.
Anybody has a suggestion for the fourth cornerstone of good sci-fi? (Maybe the first Alien?)
I would say Terminator is the 4th cornerstone of good sci-fi, it added the action aspect and the concept of time travel. Space and aliens was already done by 2001 A Space Odysey
Fourth cornerstone possibly Jon Carpenters "The Thing".The greatest sci fi flicks of all time came out from late 70s thru 80s.Plenty of brilliant ones since then but I feel it was taken to another level back then IMO.
I'm not sure if even Star Wars can be a cornerstone considering the direction it's taken. It seems like Lucas fathered a masterpiece with one hand and cannibalized it with the other as soon as he had the resources for flashy effects. But Dune is definitely a cornerstone for well done sci-fi. And I think Alien could be also, if only for its then-unique presentation.
Still one of the best sci fi's ever, not 'cause of the speciel fxs, but the whole idea/concept, that will hunt you for a long time after if you get it.
(I've noticed that alot og people who don't like it never understod it).
Maybe when this movie was made it was good..
Being a sci-fi fan I was very disappointed.
All I saw were people acting as if they were robots..
no robots. nothing to show for being robots.
no intense action scenes.
Good atmosphere.. except for the excessive use of spotlights that seemed like an out of control disco.
I was bored from start to finish.
And quite honestly.. the story didn't even make sense..
The end made absolutely no sense..
This version had new effects added by Imageworks, in 2007. They easily could've added robot parts. But, these aren't robots. They are androids. Almost human. That's the point of the movie.
Nonsense. I'm going to pretend that you watched this while being distracted by a fleet of madness clowns outside your window or something; because, the best of sci-fi comes out when a fictional reality becomes humanized to the point that we accept its possibility. Of course, the gripping distraction of madness clowns made you miss that this movie presented the question of humanity: what makes something human and what it means to exist in a society, where technology seems to come ever close to being alive, and humanity seems increasingly distant from truly living.
Sound track is fabulous, very haunting and memorable, Vangelis. Rutger Hauer is so cool, it's worth it just to see him he is such a good villain. Well done all around.
i have seen this movie multiple times and i can't find it in me to enjoy this movie. There is no doubt that this movie had great special effects and brilliant scenery, but truly that's all it had.
It was like watching the original star wars for the props and the atmosphere alone without an engrossing storyline.
if you want to watch a sci-fi that set a milestone for the genre, do yourself a favor and watch Logan's Run.
Wasn't gonna watch it, but saw that Harrison Ford was in it so I thought I would give it a try..glad I did..one of his best. One of the best sci-fi movies ever!
This movie is what all other Science Fiction should strive to be plus Sting is in it, he always plays a great villain in movies like Feyd Rathura in Frank Herberts Dune

Los Angeles, 2019: Rick Deckard of the LAPD's Blade Runner unit prowls the steel & micro-chip jungle of the 21st century for assumed humanoids known as 'replicants'. Replicants were declared illegal after a bloody mutiny on an Off-World Colony, and are to be terminated upon detection. Man's obsession with creating a being equal to himself has back-fired.
This is my favorite movie , not sure why and don't care ! My second or third perhaps is Dune . I don't know why the movies I tend to like soo much , don't have "commercial success '" or are not very "popular" ..whatever that means. It seems that if the "critics" don't care for particular movies they tend to be some of my favorites. Strange .
This is one of the best sci-fi films of all time.Great performances by Harrison Ford,Rutger Hauer, and Darryl Hannah. This is an awesome idea for a movie and give it a 5/5 rating.
This is definitely a film that's found its place in my top 10 list, if not top 5. One of the greatest of the greatest movies ever made. If you think it's all because of Ford, no- it's not because of Ford, albeit a brilliant actor, I don't like Ford. But this movie is just a staple of anything sci-fi- so far, I haven't seen any film that would produce the cyberpunk aesthetics so faultless and precise and this film is a powerful punch in the face to all of those who say that everything before 1990's was garbage. There's nothing been made after Blade Runner that can stand close to this brilliance. Nowadays, all sci-fi films are just crammed with special effects, 3D's and all the new stuff but quite ironically it all looks synthetic and simulated. Here every step, every sound is alive and real. You can nearly smell the streets, so real it feels. Seeing a character walking through the city- and you feel like you're there. Hearing the breath and you feel like you're close by. And nothing is overdone here, just true, hundred percent pure cyberpunk aesthetics. Amazing. Not the best plot I could imagine but it's done just perfectly.
