Based on Evelyn Waugh's 1945 classic British novel, Brideshead Revisited is a poignant story of forbidden love and the loss of innocence set in England prior to the Second World War.
Is it crap packed beautifully or is it a deep philosophical issue presented poorly? I'm not quite sure, but if I take in consideration the boredom that surprised me from minute to minute during this film I have to say that the first one. The problem of atheism and belief and the problem of sexuality could have been presented in a MUCH BETTER way. A film does not become good just because the actors wear 1920's clothing, drink wine and speaks in metaphors..if there's no message, or the message is palled than we cannot discuss about any quality.
Just in case if you cannot kill your time..at least that's my opinion.
I’m still trying to figure out if fate is what Charles finally believes in than for sure he’s not an atheist anymore. The ending leaves you guessing. He in my opinion loved Brideshead b/c he’s an artist not that miserable Catholic family. The acting was good but the monologue has nothing to do with the ending. Oh and why was he drawn to a guy who threw up in his room especially if he likes women?
1/5 stars for a baffling story and tedious film pace.
I enjoyed the movie; I like English/British movies and TV, so, expected as much. All 'so proper' and all, yet what I expect and enjoy about British period pieces.
It was a nice change of pace; slower, yes, but what the times called for. I haven't seen this particular set of characters, yet thought they were well acted and 'fit' well.
Great acting, wonderful cinematography and set design. I adore Matthew Goode. However, the screenplay was ploddingly tedious. Masterpiece Theatre did it so much better.
I have a weakness for period piece dramas and this is a good one. It has a great cast, costuming, scenery and is well acted. I have never seen the miniseries but am a sucker for the BBC ones so now I need to watch them I geuss.
Youtube is a good place to find BBC shows, I wish they had links on here but have never found any. Youtube is where I found Casanova, which is a GREAT BBC mini-series.. you can find it under avonasaC
If you find a link to BR miniseries please let me know.
Beautiful scenery, period piece, has everything, war, wealth, education, royality, duty, elitism, RC church/homosexuality, bisexuality, alcoholism, pre-AIDS years, mean mommy (all her fault, of course), more ugly here than beautiful. I don't care for Evelyn Waugh, I guess, and this is not one of my favorites.
When I first clicked on the movie in two parts; it stated 100% good; came back and saw it is only 66%; that is more accurate; But the movie itself was very slow; and often boring. Watched the original miniseries and it is my favorite in Masterpiece Theatre; this movie was nothing like the miniseries. I am giving it 2 and 1/2 stars.
