A documentary? Is this guy trying to be funny? Anyway I heard good things about it, so I kept watching. By the time I got half way through, I was hooked and when it finished, it left me wanting more! Fantstic film! Give it the benefit of the doubt and watch it all, it's really good :)
amazing film i cant believe how origional and stunning this film was yet it had hardly any publicity i gave it 5/5 and is up there with Avatar as i reckoned this was just as good.
That was a good movie, END OF..Forget the very few holes in the plot that the perfectionists feel compelled to highlight. This is not a $110M Hollywood project or a true to life documentary. What it is, is a fantastic, modern, creative B movie that is just different enough from other "Alien" movies to make it interesting. The way the director has shot it lets you accept the movies blatant soap box ethical message so you can move on to enjoy the film, the absurd characters and become interested in their development.
As long as you don't take it too seriously, watch with an open mind and don't expect star wars this is a really good (just original enough) film. 8/10
The theme of the movie is original but the execution of the story is done poorly.Some ideas were great, others very unworthy.The ending brings mixed feeling but when you introspect what you watched, you can say a lot of things could have been much better.It is not the best movie of the year but i am sure if you don't go into details that they took for lightly in this movie

like quarantine procedures..seen c class movies do a better job and the main character of the story who looks out of place for this kind of role and of course something of this magnitude..a ship and another race and no international involment with no army involved as well..highly unlikely to believe
then this isn't the worst you will see.In one word: a B class movie with intersting aspirations to please but a bit far from a product that would dazzle you
This is such a bad film. Im wondering if others were watching the same! The first hour of the film is utter rubbish and a complete waste of viewing time. Yes, the film does highlight some interesting issues and does get better towards the end, but i feel like all what was covered could of been done in 20 minutes. The last 20-30 mins of film is good but as the first hour was a complete bore.. 2/5
As the movie starts, I felt kind of cheated. It feels like a B-movie, with the cheap "jokes" and the stereotypical characters. Then at some point; the movie changed. It becomes a a dramatic movie with compelling characters. It was a perfect blend of sci-fi, drama and comedy. The story was a tad generic, but with the believability of the characters and the near perfect storytelling it really drags you in and delivers a great movie. In my humble opinion, we need more movies like this.
The best of 2009, second look at it today and still believe that, amazing, everything works together the acting, the CGI, storyline, action, humor and even the sadness of the message given by the film.
Good Sci-Fi movie started to have second thoughts if the movie was going to be good or not but the movie turned out to be real good. I like how they made it look like a documentary and just the whole idea of District 9.When I first started watching this I kinda thought it was a comedy cause of some of the parts.I hope they make a sequel.
I guess in may ways we are, and I guess if another lifeforms came to our planet we just might treat them as nothing more then something to steal technology from!
if you can make it through Alive in Joburg,(its only 6 minutes long) then watch this film.
i still dont know why i sat through the whole thing, guess i just wanted it to be over.
4,5 for cg, 4 for the funny way that the movie start, almost like a work doc, a lot of humor there, 3 for the storyline, wich is well, just predictable, and the ending is kind of sad, the acting is great as the production, just not mu couple of tea..
I am 45 years old and have been watching film all my life and I do not lie when I say this is truely the best I have seen to date. I am surprised that it came out of SAfrica as I have never seen anything before this from there. I am overawed by the cinematograpathy and the sheer genious of the acting ability. The theme is aways going to remain contemorary and alive for everyone.
I emplore you to see this, as said, it is at the top of my personal list of genious. Enjoy and keep your mind open and alert to the future.
I'm sorry but I could only survive 15mins of this movie and this was my second attempt to try and enjoy this movie as I'm a major sci-fi fan.But the filming was terrible,the acting was atrocious,the script was pathetic.Totally boring.Creature effects were ok,that was the only good thing about this movie.Not wasting my time on this film anymore!There are so many better films out there to watch!!
I must real be honest I started watching this film and thought it was a load of goofy trash but as i continued to watch I started to have feeling connected with the charterers having grown up in the ghettos of Sacramento.

They started out trying to help the prawns (aliens) then they burn their babys and out right treat them like crap just like the human race treats each other.Why don't the aliens learn to fight back IDK?? I noticed this a few flaws they said the Prawns didn't have a command structure which i think is a misnomer. These Prawns like ppl that some times need help we capitolize on them and when they are of no use to us we dispose of them what values are we taught as children What is the goal of the human race as a whole. when was it ok to treat something different like a disposable trash. ITS THE SAME THING THAT THE AMERICAN GOVERMENT DID TO THE NATIVE AMERICANS BEFREND THEM AND TURN ON THEM WHEN THEY ARE OF NO USE
I give this movie 41/2 out of 5 stars you Need to look at what the human race is really like and how we treat outsiders.
I thought this movie was gonna be more than it was. But then again thats why I like watching movies for free before I buy. LOL!! Anyway I thought this movie could have been better in so many ways. I give it a 3/5.
being a sci-fi fan I found it rather relaxing, it was nice to have the focus of the film not be "save the world from the aliens" like so many others, but rather the opposite, save the world from ourselves, I like movies that are different from the norm, and this one is way outside the box, I'm not saying everyone will like it, most won't, don't expect to see Independance Day its nothing like that, for me it was a great story building up to one awesome ending, but its not for everyone, 7/10
too many unanswered questions, and the sad thing is it would've been a great movie if it had an ending, and I don't think I can sit through a part 2 to this film..it was just too slow paced and not very well written but I liked the storyline and the plot watch it if your bored basically
It took about half way through the movie before a story actually started to kick in. Special Effects were very good. The movie is made to make you think it is real. Not a bad movie in my opinion, and it kinda hits your human side. 3/5
If you hold on and get through at least the first 1/2 hr, it picks up and gets very interesting, then very good. I must say, I am right behind the aliens, breaks my heart knowing this IS how we would act. No wonder no other race wants to contact us, not until we grow up.
