The last known descendant of Christ is called upon to save the existence of humanity from being negated by two renegade angels trying to exploit a loophole.
Although laugh out loud funny in some places, this movie has a lot of faults. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are allowed to get away with very smug, self indulgent performances. While Affleck never impresses me Damon on his own often shows he is a fine actor. Put them together however and they inevitably turn into a couple of giggling cretins who are convinced they are far funnier than they actually are. Similarly Jay and Silent Bob at some point stop being funny and end up being annoying.
This film is also a prime example of the writer not having a clue how to end the movie and so just creating a garbled mess, the ending really was very poor. It's a shame because the first half of the film was great but the ending leaves you with the feeling the movie was worse than it actually was.
plenty of stars in the cast..this was the first time i watched this movie tonight..it seemed like a bundle of ideas all thrown together..it has a few laugh out loud moments and a few shocking moments ..this feels like ben and mat just got together with a group of famous friends and made a movie lol
this is a hard one to rate ..so give it a try and see what you think ..its not great its not terrible its just inbetween
A very funny moive and still very drama like, so I would have to say a 5/5 for this one, and plus its such a great cast for such a huge role and I love it! :D
Good Light Comedy On A Spiritual Quest.. Sort Of..
Gosh it must be great to have enough clout in Hollywood to gather a group of close personal friends and make a goofy religious comedy. They seemed to enjoy making it and I think most folks will enjoy watching it. Was this Carlin's last film?
It's no Clerks or Mallrats but I did like it, i thought it was a little better than Chasing Amy, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are funny, Chris Rock I usually hate but he was funny here, Jay and Silent bob are as cool as ever, and of course, one of the highlights: ALAN RICKMAN is awesome!

Wonderful satire here, I love this movie all the way through. Although the special effects are subpar and the Jay/Silent Bob moments cheesy at best, the film is rewarding and delightful. One of my all-time favorite comedies.
Dogma is one of those funny, weird, off the wall type of comedies and when you have Jay and Silent Bob it just gets awesome.. Dogma has a stellar cast (Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Lee, Chris Rock, Selma Hyack, Alan Rickman, George Carlin) and the story is hilarious.. Some might find it offensive but, thats only if they dont have a sense of humor.. 9/10..
Blasphemy! who doesn't love it? well i guess the ppl that take religion seriously do. this is a funny funny movie. every one should get a great laugh or 2 out of it.
2 and a half stars outa 5 stars has some realy funny moments and some realy cheesy ones but its def a fun comedy and a great way to kill a rainy day stuck indoors :)
Dogma is one of the better Kevin Smith movies along with Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Mallrats. If you haven't seen this movie you'd be doing yourself a favor and watch it. 4/5. They could have cast God a bit better.
