Really enjoyed this movie, very well done and Kate Blanchett is one of the finest actresses in this century. Having said that, they did pretty good historically on the first part, left out some details but then the movie would have to go a lot longer. The last part of the film, total fabrication of facts but enjoyable.
Rich; sumptuous; just a tad to many historical inaccuracies;a little heavy on the melodrama - but hey who's counting. For the romantic among us - yes that means you. Lets not forget this is a rendition on the relationship between Elizabeth and Raleigh. Lets face it this is the way we'd mostly like it to be - a happy ending for sir walter - ooh. Overall rating; I give it 4/5:-)
I hear you but I think Sir Walter Raleigh doing all the deeds which, as any British schoolkid will tell you, are actually attributed to Sir Francis Drake is a bit much. Raleigh had nothing to do with the Spanish Armada. All he did was donate a ship.
It wouldn't bother me usually, poetic license and all that, but people on here are treating it like a textbook.

but who cares twas a great film to watch.
It's not as good as the movie with Helen Mirren and Jeffrey Irons from a few years ago, and this one has a lot of Hollywood gloss, but it's enjoyable. Getting someone to watch this one may encourage them to watch the more realistic versions.
enjoyed this adaptation of Elizabeth 1st. but then im not renound for being of high IQ. Great costumes though..but i dont recall her having the hots for Raliegh like that .

I enjoyed this movie even more than the first. Again, the anti-Catholic bias was a little too much. Historically, the attempted invasion of Britain was less to do with Catholic hatred of Elizabeth and revenge for Queen Mary, as to undermine English support for the rebellion in Spanish Netherlands. But eh, I guess that's not interesting story telling.
Interesting fact - contrary to the film, none of the Spanish ships actually caught on fire from the fireships. The purpose of the tactic was to disperse the Spanish formation and allow the English ships to close range. But again, this doesn't make as interesting cinematography.
can't believe that was Cate Blanchett - dont look or seem anything like her! good film- loving these historic films - hated history in school - catching up now hehehe.
cate Blanchett serial gueen. I really like the costumes..the film works as well. It is hard to not get it right with Cate playing archaic ROYALTY. Clive Owen wrapped in Sir Walter Raleigh works well too.
Very powerful movie, Kate Blanchett does an excellent job in the first one and in this one. Brilliant film, i strongly advise anyone to watch it. I gave it 5/5, and I must say i was quite eager to become part of the audience to this film.

A powerful ruler, and a powerful actress, this is in fact a great movie to watch, however I advise you to watch the first Elizabeth movie before viewing this one.
Also the Henry 8th (this forum wont let me use romanized form) Movie (Elizabeth's Father) was another great movie to be viewed.
