For me, this is one of the all-time great sci-fi films! It has an original plot
[SPOILER]
with the enemy being the human mind, unlike the usual aliens-from-another-world sci-fi of the time
, some visually stunning scenes and incredibly groundbreaking music. The film was the first feature-length film to have an entirely electronic soundtrack, created by Louis and Bebe Barron, who used cybernetics to create electronic circuits that mimicked simple social structures and emotional states. The composers used to think of these circuits as alive! Visionary stuff!!
From this movie Robby the robot became a star in his own right for a while back in those days.
He is truly the first of modern robots in movies, precursor to Hal from 2001, A Space Odyssey as well as C3P0 and R2D2 from Star Wars.
This movie is also one of the first modern horror sci-fi movies, paving the way for movies from Alien to Cloverfield.
A must-see for sci-fi fans with an appreciation for old movies.
This is one of the Sci-Fi classics. Credits include the first ever fully electronic score, being dubbed "The first episode of Star Trek", and being nominated for several oscars in special effects. If you like Star Trek, Star Wars, Lost in Space, Battlestar Galactica, or any other sci-fi, find your roots in "Forbidden Planet"
