ok, at like :31 minutes after the movie started, that scene SCARED ME TO DEATH, and made me jump out of MY SEAT~!! Shocking movie, hard to watch little Dakota Fanning be in those scenes. Uncomfortable to watch.
I remember this being banned from theaters and thought what the hey .. all of the fuss was over a 15 second scene that didn't even show nothing truly horrid or violent..there was more nudity from her dad walking around naked then that! LOL The rare story of a southern town and a assault happening . I'm sure it happens way more often then I've ever seen any movie about! I didn't mind it

Although I do think the Guy should have some sort of Justice and after being raped for her so called friend to give away the ticket she was raped for..that was so evil to be giggling about her in church..I tell ya
She played a damn good role and although it was abit slow ..worth the watch it kinda had a "My Girl" kinda feeling. 6.5/10
I watched this to see what all the uproar was about, i went into this without much expectation but i have to say this was a really good film, one of the better ones i've seen in a while..great 10/10
Wow i dont see what all the fuss is about. I thought it was really good. Had a good meaning to it. Characters all did wonderful, and i love Dakota fanning in all her movies. 100/100. Defintily watching this one again. I recomend.
this movie was excellent! dakota is an amazing actress for her age! she really can play every role!

it was very sad what happened to her in the shed when she went to get her ticket. she wanted it so bad! and i loved the end when she went to go live with that lady with her new puppy. she gets to have a good life and start over.

young girl, dumbed down dad. i agree with everyone else the whole fight over this move was a waste of time. there was one scene and i believe it lasted 5 minutes if that.
I think the controversy is what made this movie, and the fact that it exploited America's blonde-hair, blue eyed sweet heart in a vulnerable role. I thought the movie itself was unremarkable and cliched. Piper Laurie was cast as the same character as she played in "Carrie," an over zealous Bible thumper and repressive parent.
This movie was disturbing right from the beginning, and I wonder if it was really necessary. The controversy about this movie was not that the

scene was too graphic, but whether a younger child should be subjected to it, even in a theatrical role. Personally, I question whether the scene was vital to the movie, or if they built the movie around the scene to exploit poor Fanning's on screen loss of innocence.
If you have a heart you will feel for Dakota Fanning's character and the things she went through to til the end of the film. Watch for yourself and decide how you feel about it.
Ughh I hate this movie. That dog never deserved to die. If her daddy wasn't having sex that chicken would have been find. Ughh its ahoorible movie! That dog was suppose to be her friend.. it should have never die! Ughh horrible movie cause of that! Also the whole hounddog thing was horrible! Ughh I feel so bad!
I remember the media talking about this "controversial" Movie. Often reffering to the rape scene. I thought that when they announced it was not going to be released in the US that it was just a publicity stunt but to my knowledge it never was. Now that I have seen it, I do not see ANYTHING wrong with it. There are MUCH worse movies that get aired all the time here. In fact, this was even a little boring. Decent but boring. 3 out of 5 stars
I remember the big to-do about this movie a couple of years ago, and of course, all the publicity really made me want to see it.
After watching it I couldn't really rectify the controversy. Then I remembered our Puritan forefathers and it all made sense.

Is the controversy because of a scene depicting a young girls rape or because it was Dakota Fanning being raped? I have a feeling had the actress been an unknown, this wouldn't have created such a stir.
if the actress hadn't be well known, i don't think there would be such big deal over it. i think the main reason was because it wad dakota fanning playing the young girl.
The big controversy over this movie was blown WAY out of porportion. There's a movie called "Bastard out of Carolina" that's 10x's worse than this movie! Anyways, great flick & Dakota Fanning is one good little actress. I see a big future for her in this business.
Very touching story. I have a daughter about Dakota's age and would hate to have anything happen to here like in this movie.9/10. I really just stumbled upon this movie. Hadn't heard anything about it. It is a great watch.
This just goes to show you that not all oscar winners are worthy of that title. Here is a young girl, that if given the right role could win herself an oscar. Great movie and actress. 5/5 stars
