The quote of Behrani seems to ring so true in more ways than 1 in this movie!

1. Because of Behani's appearance people around him thought he had wealth. When he was trying to make it and provide for his family just like everyone else. The Lawyer that was hired, Belhani thought it was a man he was looking for who sent him a letter, when in fact it was a woman. Also notice that they did not have a woman as a receptionist but a man.
This movie was well written. Very sad and long. I had no remorse for Lester. Nor did I sympathize with Kathy. Kathy did all that just to get a house she really didnt want, and in the end she didnt claim it as her own. It was just sad. This movie deserves 4/5 stars. I enjoyed it, and I think you will too.
the movie is a spiral, a slowly moving spiral that exponintially spirals downward. its a conflict between two forces that u either simultaneously hate or love. no ground is ever gained for the viewer as to which side to pick. perfection. 10
the gun that lester threatened the family with, and the same gun the boy (ismail) used to threaten lester, was not even loaded. it was the same gun kathy had tried to commit suicide with.

i personally liked the second half of this film. the first half was a bit too slow for me. it's really emotionally difficult to watch. i am persian myself, and i understood when they spoke the language, so it was a good thing since subtitles weren't provided. it's quite sad how the house

wasn't given to the real owner. she didn't want it anymore (who would?) so it now belongs to the government. she probably moved in with her mother or something until she got her life back on track and maybe moved in with lester later.
the acting was brilliant; jennifer connelly, ben kingsley and shohreh aghdashloo all did a magnificent job. defnitely going on my playlist.
Amazing movie, great story and outstanding performance By Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly House of Sand and Fog is a story of an Iranian political refugee family who are struggling in the United States for the American Dream. (for a better life) Behrani, who used to be a colonel in Shah's Regime, religiously makes sacrifices and saves his life savings to give his daughter the wedding she deserves. After his daughter gets married to a wealthy Iranian and he's content, he then purchases a house that he see's in auction in the hope of making a profit and (flipping it) Behrani's dream is to make a profit on the house large enough to full fill a dream of building a villa like he and his wife once had in Norther Iran near the beach. Sadly .. Kathy, who was the former owner of the house becomes their worst nightmare. I won't tell you anymore other than you have to see the spiraling drama taking place after Kathy is forced to move out of the house that her daddy left her in his will. I know you will love this movie. It's one of my all time favorites. have a good watch.
It's slow and depressing but incredible wise and real at the same time. That story can happen to anybody, when things get out of control. Movie makes me cry. It was so sad, and so unfair

what happened to Iranian family. I felt sorry for Kathy ( Jennifer Conolly) as well, with her lack of happiness and deep depression
Acting and music were just amazing. It's a must watch for all sensitive souls
BUT if your are not into drama movies, I guess you won't like it.
I remember watching this when I was younger, and I remember it took my breath away, I think, just how all the events led to the "ending." I felt then, that this movie woke me up, and taught me to not take things for granted.
There is an important lesson to be learned from this movie, and I know that sounds corny.
This really held so many emotions based on beliefs, morals, and values. I loved that the movie shows how wrong we can be in trying to do what's right and fair, leading to costly consequences! 5/5 and going on my playlist!
I I feel the same way, a story of how material possessions are not the most important things in life, and how high a price some people are willing to pay for them, a moving story indeed, I rate it a 5/5
Its not the first time ive seen this film. This is the second and it is an amazing film, very powerfull and teaches you a good lesson in life. Tragedies can come from pure selfishness, always try to do the right thing towards other people even if legally you are in the right. The mind has a big conscience and life works in mysterious ways. Very sad film. There never is a winner. A must see for you all!! I rate this film 10/10
I do not cry watching films but this one got me good, I bawled for quite a while. It stayed with me for days, beware if you are feeling depressed already. This should come with a warning on it 'WILL MAKE YOU INCREDIBLY SAD!!'
That said, Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connolly are brilliant in it..A proper story, well acted and truly tragic.
Friends of the Shaw of Iran were friends of the US government..as we can see from the character played by Kingsly, the colonel brought his past with him..the sheriff local brought his to bare against him (the colonel of the middle east "other") and the county bureaucracy brought it's dysfunction along the way as catalyst for one hell of a twisted drama. A good film for those who like to be reminded how not so cut and dry cultural politics are..
Dark, Deep, Sad, Depressing.. I could go on and on. This is one of the best scripted films I have ever seen. It is my favorite movie and I never grow tired of it! Both Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly gave amazing performances!! If you haven't seen it you are missing out!! 5/5
