Julia Child's story of her start in the cooking profession is intertwined with blogger Julie Powell's 2002 challenge to cook all the recipes in Child's first book.
Not the type of movie i'd usually pick, in fact if it wasn't for Meryl Streep it would have been totally boring, as it happened she brought it all together, great acting.
I started to watch this movie because I was afraid it'd be too boring to the female half of my family, to whom I choose two movies to watch on a weekend. Usually I watch only 15 minutes of each, make sure they meet all the criterias and end well.
So, I started to watch this one and I couldn't stop. At the same time I couldn't say if I liked it or not. It does have some things at the beginning that I personally dislike (though they have nothing to do with the quality of the movie).
NOW, I just finished watching it and now I can say for sure: I liked it a lot (despite those things at the beginning). It's funny, it has a story, it keeps you interested what's gonna happen next and you care for the characters. I hardly even noticed it's been two hours long.
All I can say that without Meryl Streep this movie would not be anything. She is so incredible! Just few days before I saw another movie with her in it and there is such a huge difference between her characters, and she handles both of them superbly! I would happily name her as one of the best actresses of all times and would watch any movie with her!
Having watched Julia on TV for years and using "Mastering The Art Of French Cooking" for as long, I was looking forward to seeing her portrayed in a movie. Streep absolutely captured Julia's very unique personality. I laughed and cried throughout the entire film. What a great movie!
10/10 stars!! As a woman who can barely cook herself. This movie has actually made me want to become a better cook for my husband to be. Though I doubt I'll be de-boning a duck anytime soon. lol
What a wonderful movie. Funny, witty, poignant a truly marvelous tribute to Julia and Julie. The masterful acting abilities of Meryl Streep and Amy Adams give this production the professionalism it deserves. It is sad that reality spoils this portrayal perhaps we can forgive the producers for sparing us the details. Stanley Tucci plays a caring, loving and devoted husband, the man never fails to amaze me with his versatility and I think is extremely under utilised. Chris Messina is a newbie to me but acquitted himself well. 5/5
This movie is just far too long. It keeps dragging on and on, and it's really only about cooking. But what I did like about it was the amazing acting. Meryl Streep is so amazing, and there are so many sweet hidden messages that makeS thinking. I only wonder if it's kinda movie that can be watched over and over again..and quite frankly I don't think so. It's a movie you watch once in a while. I also believe similar movie has already been made about cooking!

Meryl Streep is a great actress! just show she can pull off with her accents and put her all into her characters she plays just ugh she is one of the best which are only a few in the academy. it was fun watching her in this movie! funny a nice movie to watch.
Meryl Streep is an AMAZING, GREAT and TALENTED actress and I adore her.
Amy Adams is alsoo so amazing and talented and so beautiful, wonderful job.
Stanley Tucci he is so cool and talented and hansome well done.
Chris Messina hot, cute and hansome with great acting.
Jane Lynch she is always great, and funy and bring it all.
This movie is brilliant and great also as the story which is amazing and touching.
A DEFF Must SEE.
good idea, blog is better however. I have watched 95 min so far and am forceing myself to watch the rest. i love meryl streep in this part, she is awesome!
Well I'm drawing a blank on this one. OK so now I've seen the movie and I'm thankful that I got the opportunity, however I myself would not have wanted to pay any dosh to see it as I really would have come out feeling it was a total waste of my hard earned money.
OK this IS the story of Julia Childs well fine, but I really thought it would have been more interesting than it was. I saw her on tv when I lived in the States in the 80s and that voice grated on me then, so Meryl Streep did a fantastic copycat because her copycat voice grated on me too! Thats the only positive thing I can say about the movie - great acting Meryl.
I thought this was a really good movie! Aside from the negative comments that were written about it. I almost didn't watch it. I am glad I did. Watch the movie and judge for yourself! I give it 5 stars.
Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. Not really a Julia Child's fan but knew about her growing up of course. But now I am for sure. As for the ending - COME on people check out the original blog or google her reaction and her publisher's reaction to Julie. Julie in the movie is far different than the real one by the real Julie's own admission. She said this was a publicity stunt on her blog and that she does not want to be a real cook she wants to be an author. Julia felt it was offensive.
just wasted my time watching this..i only did because of merryl streep but it's really frustrating.. maybe not for me this time..it's true the ending was flat. watch at your own risk..
