i decided to watch this film after i heard bollywood made a copy of it (so i wanted to watch the original) i have to say that the story was going fantastically until the ending where it completly threw me off - i even went searching for other peoples explinations of it on forums but it seems that no had any solid idea everyone was just kinding guessing it as best they could. here what i think im probly wrong tho (

leonard cant get over the guilt of killing his own wife so invents sammy jenkins story and starts living out a lie - teddy is crooked and uses leonard to kill jimmy for his own ends exploiting his condition after learning of it working on his police case- and after natalie finds out about what teddy did to her boyfriend [jimmy] she uses leonard to kill teddy by convincing him he was john G [the man he believes killed his wife]- then at the last scene where teddy explains everyin to leonard[that he killed his own wife] he again doesnt wanna face the truth of what really happened so he decides to kill teddy so that he can go on living his lie
) also for some people they got confused with who put the note written on the coaster into leonards pocket [

jimmy wrote it for himself and thats why natalie was so suprised to see leonard in jimmys car- she had never met him before but knew of him from teddy who had told her and her boyfriend jimmy of how he was using leonard

This is possibly one the best, most under-rated films ever made. A total classic. (spoiler)The device of telling the entire story backwards crossed with the main characters inability to form short-term memories works so well it makes me wonder if the director intended this, or stumbled upon it during editing(/spoiler) If I could advise one thing, though, DON'T watch this movie online. Get the dvd. If you get the budget dvd there's an easter egg you can find to watch the movie in reverse (spoiler) which is actually forward (/spoiler) or you could get the more expensive dvd, for which you don't need the easter egg at all. That said, total 5 outta 5. Excellent film & you'll never forget you watched it! ;)
I agree. The film is just too smart to watch once. You have to watch it again and you end up enjoying it just as much the second time around. I loved it. I still watch sometimes. The person who wrote this is genius. I have to respect this type of work. It's absolutely brilliant and makes perfect sense.
Great psychological thriller, directed by Christopher Nolan. Very smart storyline, brilliantly pieced together. Guy Pearce's acting was superb in this.
Another wonderful mind-bender, by the same director, is "The Prestige".
Both very, very good films. 4.5/5 rating.
I was watching this movie in anticipation waiting for everthying to just make sense but the story is not so much confusing as you go further into the film as it is poorly written with many gaping holes and loose ends!

For example, if Sammy's situation was before he got the head concussion giving him memory loss, Lenny could not be Sammy because Lenny is the freakin insurance investigator! Hello! Also, why didn't natalie notice that Lenny was wearing her boyfriend Jimmy's clothes and driving his car and put two and two together and blame Lenny for killing Jimmy. Finally, (although there are other loose ends I won't now cover) what the heck was with the idea that Natalie would help out Lenny out of PITY (its supposed to be sympathy/empathy by the way)because she lost someone too--who did she lose, her boyfriend, that maybe LENNY KILLED?!?!
If it wasn't in the film noir genre I would have expected a better ending that tied all the loose ends but this movie just doesn't deliver on any front fim noir or not because of the weirdly discombobulated storyline. It lacked an overarching theme, something to follow through on from beginning to end. Instead there were just confusing bits of information that didn't fit in together and that don't give you a clear big picture!
For The People Wondering What This Movie Was About I Have The Spoiler If You Can't Figure It Out
This movie was a realistic attempt with a person with anterograde amnesia. Sadly i solved this movie from inside out taking small details from all sides of this film. This movie is similar to Shakespeare because of the poetic justice at the end of the movie and it's internal meaning. If anyone studied the play "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare, they would understand the movie for those who are of high intelligence. It's truely amazing and after understanding the movie, which i solved it, there was more to it than you believe this movies has. There is other things that the normal audience does not pick up. If there any questions about the movies I CAN answer :). I can proclaim that, the characters in this film, most of them were interlinked in one way or the other, if you watch carefully. The relationship of the characters is what made the movie enriched with meanings. The director also made the characters more complex with more personalities which made the audience think which personality is real and who is the one lying. The audience can interpret the stories in more ways imaginable, which i hate because director basicially manipulates us and makes us watch this movie more than once to fully understand it. It's the director's way of making more MONEY!!!!

I disagree with Andrew, you are NOT even in the minutest sense of the word, SMART! Get out of town, just because you write some long drivel about this being like Shakespeare (which is a ridiculously ambiguous description by the way because Shakespeare has many genres) then you say its like Hamlet (which is a little more specific but still ambiguous because you don't specifically describe the connection), which it isn't like at all in the first place, this is a film noir which has absolutely nothing to do with Hamlet's which is a straightforward tragedy--which does not have all the nuances and moral abiguity of film noir.
Also, why don't you grace us with your complete solution to this movie in a spoiler and explain everything for us since you understood everything so well? Oops, maybe because you don't understand jack!
Also, mr. smartypants, if you, as you say, "solved this movie from the inside out" unlike the rest of us who had to watch till the end or maybe even a couple of times then why do you say that the director manipulates "US" to watch this movie more than once? If you solved it from the inside out you wouldn't need to even finish it the first time much less watch it "more than once"!
iv watched this movie years ago and recall it being great..just rewatched it and yup its one of the top 5 movies iv ever seen..must see if your into smart movies
What a movie!! Wow, i have never watched a movie this puzzling and so carefully and intelligently made, WOW ! A true MASTERPIECE!! It took me a whole evening to figure out everything and fully understand it, I will probably still think about this movie when I wake up lol. You have to watch this!! You owe it to your brain after all the usual hollywood crap. If someone knows a movie similar to this one, please recommend it to me!
My favorite movie of all time. I much prefer this type of film over big blockbuster flicks- the majority of them anyway. I find something new everytime I watch it and I've seen it at least half a dozen times.
Excellent performances, awesome twists, sweet ending, only downer is that it gets a bit dry in a few parts but please don't give up on this one!! 5/5
Recommend- Machinist, Fight Club, and Exotica (if you can find it- Don't be thrown by title).
Great film, fantastic twist! Loved it, will definately watch this one again in a few days. Watch it now, I recommend! But don't make my mistake of reading the damn spoilers first, I just can't help myself lmao! :P
Great movie for those who are natural at figuring out movies, cause this one just constantly keeps you wondering and guessing. Definitely a must see for any movie watcher!
wow what a strange film, it made u think for yourself. great thriller though leaves you wondering whats happening the whole time. 9/10 would recommend to all with a broad mind
