This is an amazing film. It is restored. 20% of the original has been lost. But, look at the sets, the scenery, the direction and acting. They are truely magnificent. This is a film all who love film should see.
This is the English dubbed-version of the 2001 adaption of Osamu Tezuka's manga "Metropolis". Rated PG-13 for violence and images of destruction. Dramatic and striking visuals; very "urban" in style and color - much different from the house Ghibli rural style. Fine story but is a little weak in the dialog. There is a reason the large animation houses hire actors to do the voices rather than readers. Uh, readers read their lines. Still a good effort and recommended. 4/5 on the manga.
What a picture for being made 80 years ago!! You will just have to invest 2 and a half hours to get out of this picture what I did - and I feel it is well worth the time investment - without a doubt!

A movie that was the mother of Si-Fi. if u r in to si-fi u have to see this. it was way advance for it's time. the story was just awesome. also the effects were 2 cool for that time. i think "Jorg Lucks" or "Spillbarg" or "J.Camron" should be asked to Re-make this movie. it's time for the Tec-Heads and people of the iPod age to see a great story. thanks.
Anyone who can't appreciate art like this needs to stick to the pothead movies like Pineapple Express. You don't have to be creative to enjoy them. This film is a film, not a movie, and should be respected for what it is. Bravo to the makers.
This is not a movie that a person should see if he, she is bored and needs to see something cool and action. This is a piece of art, it is THE movie of THE revolution. it is boring if you look at it with the prospective of watching a movie, but you will be astonished if you watch it with the comprehension of watching a piece of art, it is interesting how they managed to crate such effects in 1927. We all know the ideology of Nazism and the Arian race; in this movie we can find the ideology of two races one that lives underground the other that lives underground, the same idea of H.G.Wells with the time machine where the underground monsters eat the Eloi (the more human beings) though in the movie "Metropolis" the humans underground obey to the orders of the humans "over the ground".
the movie is not only interesting from a cinematographic point but expresses also the difference of society and costumes between these two "races" of humans.
10/10.
This is one of the best movie's i have seen .. if it was remade today i could see this being a Tim Burton and Johnny Depp movie but anyway i give overall grade A+
