Based on the 1980's TV action/drama, this update focuses on vice detectives Crockett and Tubbs as their respective personal and professional lives become dangerously intertwined.
ultimately not bad but the bar was set so high from it's tv counterpart that not bad equal bad. Gone are the cool, the exotic miami locals and the fashion. What remains is a stale, very conservative, safe exercise in drama and action which doesn't reach the requred level of excitment till the movie is about to end.
M.V. teases us with what it could be but the tension is so tightly guarded by the central charectors we don't feel heat at all. Instead i suggest for anyone mildly interested in this one to rent the d.v.d and launch the director commentary at the very least Mann explains to you how your supposed to feel when the tension is supposed to be bursting at the seams. Unfortunatially the tension doesn't transfer properly.
"A" list actors, with bad dialog. Very difficult to follow, in fact the only character I could follow had English as a second language. Good for a 1 time watch. 6/10
what a waste!
i dont think it it was remenicent of the series,
had it been named something else i would have still thought it was bad.
it was just not believeable or flowing, the love story, drug kingpin nor police portions.
this movie failed imho to say the least.
I really liked this movie. I was one of the ones that used to watch Miami Vice regularly as well back in the day. Was not sure how a movie would translate, not as well as I would have liked but the movie did encapsulate the essence of a Miami Vice episode in my opinion. 3.5/5 stars
At just over 2hrs it isn't a long movie but my god it felt like forever as the convulted plot crawled along with no luster, I've seen episodes of CSI where more happens and more polished. This film could have had an hour shaved off it at least.

The non existant team sprit of the unit, the dissapoiting ending shoot out which was filmed cose in with the intent of involving you in the aciton failed and looked like a bad TV special.
Also some of the lines i had to rewind and turn the volume up to make out the mumbles of what they were saying. Bad bad bad.
I never missed the TV series when it originally aired 20-odd years ago -and the story still hold me today. Ahead of it's time back then, and still a contender today. Good acting and action, super plot and will keep your attention from beginning to the end! 4.75/5
I actually watched miami vice in the 80's this movie--completely blew, the plot immediately becomes so convoluted after at least 3 attempts I could not get into this movie, its nothing like the series, because the series was exciting, this was boring
This was probably the worst film ever made. Both actors hated each other and you could see it on their faces throughout the film. It took me 4-5 times actually get through this movie.. only to be let down.
