Spike Lee is not my favorite person on planet Earth, but he produced one of the finest movies I've seen in years in "Miracle at St. Anna." I laughed, I raged, I wept, and in the end I felt a special fulfillment for having watched this masterpiece. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. I may not like Mr. Lee for my own reasons, but surely, I love what he has wrought. V/V
This was one of the best films i have seen in a while.Truly, just watch it with an open heart it doesn't matter what race you are. There is a much deeper message to the movie.Just to reduce it to the race of the actors or director is missing the point.9/10
As already stated in an earlier post, Black American servicemen were generally prevented from seeing action in the front line, not, of course, for lack of willingness to be there (inasmuch as anybody wanted to be there), though there was some pragmatic desegregation and deployment for the Battle of the Bulge when the USA was running short of manpower. Let us not forget the bold Tuskegee airmen either. So, apart from the beautiful "miraculo", this story could conceivably have occurred in the Ardennes, but not in Italy. However, the maltreatment of black GIs at the hands of some of their white "brothers-in-arms", and racist fellow countrymen, was often much worse than shown here. If you can suspend disbelief for a couple of hours, you will find this a truly rich and moving story, showing both good and evil in the members of all the races and nations involved, which brought tears to my eyes. Use #16 NOVAMOV if you want subtitles, colour, clear sound, and a decent picture that doesn't stick. (7½/10)
There have been African American service members in every war the US has fought.
In WWII, there were many. Including NG units. Granted they did not all serve in frontline positions, but the same could be said of white troops. Here are a few African American units that served during WWII.

Good movie, it was ridiculous that they could die for their country, but they couldn't was there clothes or go to a restaurant with their white counterparts.. ridiculous.. 4/5
it was hard to believe the lead charectors were in world war two in few spots, always have to portray all white people as bad, when its a black director, but if your not distracted by the blatant anti-white message, it turns into a pretty good movie.
[SPOILER]
i dont understand why the italion girl all of a sudden turned into a ..., that wasnt really going with the flow of the movie.. like they just needed a sex scene so they threw that in, it seemed like. the gun battle at the end was worth the wait, authentic weapons and noises of weapons.
No my friend. In what part of this movie did you view any part as anti-white. The majority of parts where racism did occur was portrayed just as it was during those times.
Just because a black director/writer is making a point about racial issues during those times does not make it anti-white. It is finally pointing the finger so that people whom are white and of other races can see exactly how white people acted during that time and now during this and age when we have a black president.
Further more not all black directors/writers have basis behind their films that features a 'anti-white message'. Can you say the Italian Job.
Blacks were not allowed on the front lines in either of the theatres of WW2. This is just more lies and revisionist history created by a black bigot. If your true history was digging ditches and loading trucks while the white men fought the war then Ole Spike can create a history that sounds more pleasing than the actual truth. This guy reads and communicates on a third grade level, but that is okay bcause most of the people gullable enough to believe his fairey tales exist on a third grade level.
its a shame this film wasnt a commercial success as it couldve been because Spike makes an instant classic with actors few ever even heard of. i believe the actor who played Train it was his very first film. Wow! This is truly an epic tale that few could do right next to MalcolmX its Spikes best film. I truly was amazed at the war scenes to be honest it really seemed like Spike was just letting the audience have it. hes not known for his visceral style and here its done perfectly. the performances were awe inspiring from every level, from top to tails. i think the minor beef Spike had with Eastwood sorta had something to do with its box office failure Spike attacking Eastwood for not showing any Black marines in his war films he was making at the time. oh well who knows Spike hasnt blockbustered ina while not because hes incapable but because..as Bishop would say..MMHMM
after watching two total turkeys of movies today..this made a refreshing change ..spike lee always makes good movies even if they are slightly controversial
very good i enjoyed this and would watch it again 4.5/5
It is a crap movie..Just a bunch of bigots lining up to kiss ole Spike the losers hiney. Everyone who isn't a bigot says the same thing..The movie is missing something..It is really missing two things..A grain of truth to the story..but most of all it is missing a director.Spike is to the movie industry what Willie T Ribbs was to NASCAR..
Outstanding! the ending WILL empty out your tissue box completely! This is ever the best movie I ever saw to remember! Tis not a war movie! but uses that as a mark to the feelings of real people! Bless them souls! spoiler
I really want to tell you all that I enjoyed this movie, because at first I really did, sort of. Then the self induced haze of watching a Spike Lee movie wore off and I was just left with bordem. The subtitles were too small to read which annoyed me, and the ending was way to fast and cheesy really. Do yourself a favor and just pass this one up, it will not turn out the way you hope, trust me. One out of five from me.
Good Movie, But A Bit Heavy On Negative White Stereotypes
I kind of was given the impression the American white officers were as bad as the nazi officers. In my opinion, this doesn't expose racism, it just perpetuates it.
