I loove this film its so refreshing to see a funny female lead who most women can relate to,My best friends greek and father as soon as he heard my name he says "ah Maria are u greek" in his strong Cyprus accent lol,I'm actually half irish and english to his disappointment.
He is adorable much like Tola's father.

My mom used to watch this movie in HBO,, I dind't really pay any attention 'til now. I really like this movie,, I mean it's so cool how she has all of the family that supports you,, but sometimes it's not cool cuz they all get into your business and yeeah. Well other than that I recommend it :)
Good movie with simple family values enhancing the importance of family despite them being annoying at times.
And just for the record, I had the fortune of meeting a Greek guy while I was holidaying in Australia and he affirms that it is true that a guy would have to ask a girl's father for permission to date the girl so that when the couple is seen in public, the father and the girl's family itself will not have their reputation tarnished by gossip-mongers. But beware, asking for permission to date a girl is almost tantamount to asking for the girl's hand in marriage. However, that said, if the guy's request has been declined by the girl's father, the guy should come every week to ask for permission till the girl's father relents. The reason why the father may decline in the first place is cos he is testing the guy's sincerity to see if the guy would pursue all the way or just give up halfway without trying harder. Besides, isn't that how a marriage works too?? You wouldn't want a quitter even before the problem is in right?
I always thought this movie looked stupid, so I didn't bother watching it. But it was actually pretty good. Lots of humor and some romance, definitely a good "Chick Flick". 3.5/5
Every Indian Family Story Can Relate To This Movie..
I guess people with history, tradition which goes back to ancient times (And you can trace back the ancestors and lineage through several generation into the past) can relate to similar family situations. With growing number of dysfunctional families world over, especially in countries like the US.. This would seem Alien to them. No matter if you are Greek, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Iraqi, Saudi, Lantino.. People with some form of link to their past lineage.. are the same world over, with the same kinda problems and facing the similar tensions and situations. I won't say this was a great film except, it shows how similar we all are everywhere across the globe (except very few.. You know who you are.. who call others Alien!)
