Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey", set in the deep south during the 1930's. In it, three escaped convicts search for hidden treasure while a relentless lawman pursues them.
This is a real feel good comedy film with a brilliant storyline. Loved the performances from the three main actors, especially George Clooney. The Coen brothers always get the best out of him. There are some really funny characters in this film which adds to the adventure aspect. Great direction, which you come to expect from a Coen brothers film and a perfect cast. All in all a brilliant story and very funny. Perfect film. 5/5
Really great movie. Don't worry the movie is still funny even if you didn't read the Odyssey, but if on the other hand you did you will find this movie even more interesting. Great acting and directing.. an almost perfect movie.
The Coens never fail to come up with brilliant, quirky characters and this is no different. Loosely based on The Odyssey, it's very funny and has a great musical score. George Clooney is always at his best in Coen movies.
An enjoyable and well-constructed comedy from the Coen brothers. Great story, different from the usual. Some good music and great acting.. George Clooney did an excellent job in this one.

A clever and genuine comedy, full of references and symbolism. Loosely based on Homer's Odyssey, it tells the journey (in this case, the escape from a prison) of a modern Ulysses across the Southern U.S. during the Great Depression. His country is not Ithaca, but a little town in Mississippi. His beloved wife doesn't wait faithfully at home, but she's going to marry another man. "Polyphemus" is an unsuspicious member of the KK and the "Sirens" seduce by offering forbidden whiskey.
In a comic vein, this film tells the hard conditions around this time, like poverty, racism and segregation, bank robberies and penal colonies.
One of my favorite Coen movies, with an original and hilarious plot, funny soundtrack, great direction and, above all, gorgeous cinematography.
I hope everyone knows that "Man of Constant Sorrow" is a very old song by Dr. Ralph Stanley. It was redone by Allison Krauss and Union Station for this movie. That's Dan Tyminski singing it for the movie. I can't tell you how many bluegrass shows I have been too and people yell out "Play man of constant sorrow..thinking that the band on stage is the one from the movie.
Regardless..this movie has some great great grassroots music in it and I love the story line..taken form the Odyssey. 4.5/5
