No such thing as Satan or God. Therefor there is no "pagan symbols." Do your research.. "pagan" was made up word by the Catholic Church to say that those who did not believe in their religion was "pagan" or "satanic." The Church persecuted/tortured/murdered these so called "pagans".. why? Oh they must worship Satan because they aren't Catholics.. "Pagan, Satan.." Please!! No such thing. It only is if you believe, but it is all up to you to believe what you want because even the most fake of things can be real to one if they choose so to believe. And by the way, not everything you read or research is true just because it's written so many times or it is knowledge that dates back thousands of years..
It's all about what you believe. And to be quite honest with you, its just a movie. Anybody can put on a religious overtone to this movie, or any other movie for that matter. Movie, by definition, is entertainment. Trust me, I actually looked it up on dictionary.com. But I will agree on one point that labyrinths are from greek mythology that is for the purpose of initiation. Great movie, by the way.

How can it be regarding Satan and Hell when the girl's last test was to shed your own blood instead of shedding an innocent one's? And there is no misery in her father's world which for that reason is DEFINITELY not HELL.
Don't try to ruin this story with your silly beliefs-The story was simple and beautiful, the girl created a wondrous world to escape into, there's nothing satanic about it, paganism does not equal satanism, and was around long before he was
most religions are dangerous and All are nothing but hope providers. There is no god and there is no satan. its just a fictional story that was taken way to seriously. its a form of control, in the old days it was there way of controlling the masses, a ancient form of propaganda. Modern propaganda is even worse, look at how the media twists things these days, they invent stories and make people believe it.
i love this movie. the old dark fairy tales have always been my favorite. the cinematography in this is brilliant, the acting from every single player (especially the girl playing Ofelia i think her name is Ivana) the story, direction, everything is amazing. this is one of my all time favorite movies. 9.5/10
This was a very good movie. Not really a children's movie because it is dark and scary, violent and bloody, but it has a good message- self sacrifice for the benefit of others..
the the heated discxussions here, it doesnt really matter who believes in god and who doesnt. only that a lack of education would surgest that some here believe satanism and paganism is the same thing. satanism is just another branch of christianity, pagans dont believe in satan, you really do have to be christian to believe in the devil. all fairytales can be interpretted as pagan, hey some people even play rock music backwards and discover hidden satanic messages. you can find the devil in the food we eat and clothes we wear, and if you want you can find the devil in goats. but you cant find in in paganism
Me and my mate went to watch this flic in the cinemas but didnt realise it was in spanish with eng subtitles (thank fully). We were about to walk out but im soo glad we didnt; the storyline was sheer brilliance. The darkness of film with the innocense of the main character and the events surrounding the film were captured perfectly,

Movies that have to do something with a war are usually praise-less as is this one. This is the first time I actually liked watching a movie with subtitles. WATCH IT! YOU WOULD NOT REGRET IT.
It was interesting, and turned out to be completely than what i expected it to be towards the end. It keeps you guessing until u drop!! It is a great fantasy movie and somewhat different. I guess movie is more sacrifice and death than survival, so maybe the end part is not what you would expect. However, it is an adrenalin for ur mind seriously.
The director could have made fatal errors at any time, either by trivializing the fantasy world by making it flat without any moral complexities, or by making the film overly sentimental with the girl's tragic story. nor does it depoliticize the times the film takes place in. all done so well.
this is a world class film because it never takes the easy or obvious way out.
also a labyrinth is a specific type of maze, one that leads to only one place (in the case of mythology all paths led to the minotaur, but in modern times they all lead to the exit, unlike other mazes which can lead to dead ends, etc).

This film really impressed me. I definitely wouldn't consider it a "cute film"..it was a dark fairytale. I read a lot of the comments before regarding the symbolism and such..and I found that interesting and while watching the film I looked for it. I'm going to do my own research regarding it. Don't be put off by the spanish subtitles..I was atfirst but this truely is a brilliant movie. 4/5 for the imagination of the director and the writer..so amazing.
I've got to say I was put of by the subtitles in the beggining, but this has got to be one of the best films I've seen! I seen the old labyrinth and this was really spectacular.. Being in Spanish did add a lot of mystique and flavour to it! it is trully a very nice film! 9.5/10
I fell in love with this movie from the get go. I wouldn't say you have to have a dark imagination to get this, but it does help..I get the whole thing..the creatures(demons)..why they were there..why she created that world..I could go on..but then I would spoil it. This movie isn't for everyone. Especially those who cannot stand subtitles (original language is in Spanish). Def one of my favs!!
