In 2054, Paris is a labyrinth where all movement is monitored and recorded. In this world of stark contrasts and rigid laws the populace is kept in line and accounted for.
The film's look is impressive so far; and it's the most successful rotoscoping effort to date (far surpassing Richard Linklater's duo of "Waking Life" and "A Scanner Darkly"), and causes every frame to drip atmosphere.But to me, Connoisseurs of digital animation, graphic novels, and the history of dystopian art will have plenty to discuss about Christian Volckman's visually striking, technically impressive black-and-white animated feature Renaissance?But no one will be talking about the movie's banal plot, the trite dialogue, or any of the indistinguishable characters who offer a bleak futuristic vision of cinema that's all style, no soul. I thought that Pitched as "animation for adults," Renaissance will find an audience among those in the 20-35 age group who enjoy graphic novels, but will disappoint anyone hoping for emotional or intellectual sustenance.
great comment abdur360 but i thought i'd mention it wasn't rotoscoped. it was animated in 3D using motion capture. just clarifying, not meaning to be a jerk.
caution if your epileptic this movie will trigger siezures or even worse death lol j.k. this shows why you should leave anime to the pros the japanese 0 outa 5
Some great animated action scenes but the lack of color leaves a lot to be desired and makes one wonder if they held back the color to save money cos they knew the film would be a flop.
It's not totally crap but I wouldn't watch it a second time because I would feel I had wasted even more of my life.
Definitely worth watching 5/5.. A few notes.. The black and white throws you off for a while but you do get used to it if you stick with the movie.. the story DOES make sense in the end.. and i would suggest being able to speak french because the subtitles leave a few things out that are important to understanding the story.
WOW i guess.. well i really didn like it nor could i really get .. must be the CARTOON non english thing.. this movie has been here since 2006 n no POSTING hmm I need NOT to wonder y?
I must say initially, I had a hard time with distinguishing some of the characters just by face..becuase of the darkness of the art. However,once it started to flow a little I began to piece it all together..very good storyline..very dark imagery and story. Bravo..
