This western might disappoint some by not delivering the action and the breathless pursuits one might expect, but it's still and excellent, almost philosophical tale. Two great actors do justice to their roles, and the ending achieves in my eyes some sort of surreal epic dimension that leaves one thinking.

This is defintely a case of the sum of the parts equal LESS than the whole. I mean, decent acting, nice script, the plot is interesting; the movie however, leaves you thinking..ok..that was it. Not a bad movie, just nothing special. The message or moral of the story is a yawn.
Excellent cast, photography, all around good movie..too bad it's only in Tudou too many 20 minute segments and I can't stand Mega..movie is very good though.
The setting is several years after the US Civil War. The colonel was Confederate; the man he was chasing an Union Captain. Watch the flash back about 2/3's through the movie, during a "dead horse" scene.
I think it was the personal aspect of the film which sets it apart for me, sorta like Cold Mountain, I became more involved with the characters than the story. This is a story of survival of the fittest, to say more would give away the ending, if you like westerns it will not disappoint.

Gideon's flight and Carver's hunt require horses, water, and bullets. The course takes them past lone settlers, a wagon train, a rail crew, settlements, and an Indian philosopher. What is the reason for the hunt; what connects Gideon and Carver? What happened at Seraphim Falls?
the words forgive me are a powerful thing to ignore if you have a heart and a child of god. the movie has a very powerful message maybe we all can learn something from this movie.
great movie, but why do people say the versions don't work? they both worked great on my computer maybe some of you should ditch the tandy and upgrade your connection ;)
