Two men reaching middle age with not much to show but disappointment, embark on a week long road trip through California's wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle.
this is the 3rd time Ive seen this movie and enjoyed it each time but buy a bottle or two wine's as this movie will make you wish you had one, as there is a lot of drinking and talking about wine. good for a nice after noon with some one and a bottle of the best enjoy
this is what I like about indie films, they allow for simople stories to be told well without formulaic hollywood stuff having to be thrown into the mix
all this from a man who wouldnt thank you for a glass of wine..
..although If it meant spending time with Virginia Madsen, my arm could be twisted
What a good film. Little, indy, lower budget picture that kicks butt!! Engaging from end to end - will watch this several more times in my life - guaranteed. 4.5/5
It is fairly infrequent for comedies to be put up for a statue, but this film did just that. It is a mix of very odd but smart comedy and lively dialogue that is sure to impress.
The plotting and pace is lively and unpredictable. It does lull a tad initially before it gets going, but after that, it is a joy to watch.
My personal fav scene is Miles' meltdown screen at the frass canyon winery. Truly hysterical.
I love the two main characters in this. One lovable slob and his best friend the scandalous groom to be. This is one of those "perfect" indie films. It has flawed characters and others that are not so flawed and you identify with all of them on some level flaws and all. When I first saw this film I laughed so hard at the humor including the more subtle jokes all the way to the
[SPOILER]
especially the scene where Paul actually grabs the spitcup and chugs out of it which made me laugh out loud and gag at the exact same time
end. Actually added this DVD to my collection after a second viewing.
Patient with version 2, it buffers like crazy. I hate the way the guys acted in the film but it's true to life unfortunately. Makes me want to go to wine country for my next vacation, with NO Merlot.
There is a dark side to this: it's not a "comedy" as in "Meet the Parents" or"What About Bob?". It's probably for more mature audiences with some intellectual curiosity.
Enojoyable. It was nice to see heartache from a males point of view. Rarely done. The screenwriters knew their wines. Well written, comical, decent movie.
This story about two middle aged men- a depressed wine lover and an immature swashbuckler trying to live his life as a teen apparently created a lot of buzz when it came out. In no time Santa Ynez Valley was full of wannabe Miles and Jack tourists and Miles favourite wine sales skyrocketed. Unbelievable. These are some of the facts that would repel me from this film.
I watched the film without knowing these facts, though, and I liked it. Romantic comedies always create lots of overreaction and this exactly what it is- a romantic comedy film about middle age people for middle age people. But it's also something more. While you can never find, not even a hint of ANY humour in the likes (Bridget Jones's Diary etc), this is full of hilarious jokes all through.
So, overall, while romantic comedies are something I'm always vomiting even hearing about, this is a much, much better thing. I enjoyed it loads, it made me laugh, and that's already a lot. But I never wanna imagine about tourists flooding to the valley to sit in the Hitching Post and drink Pinot Noir just because of this film which is definitely in no way a masterwork or anything groundbreaking.. yuk!
i went 2 the pictures to see this i walked out half way tho its a shockin movie there was not 1 thing funny about it.so how it can get away with sayin it is i hav no idea SHOCKIN dont giv up your time 0.5
If you don't know about wines, you can actually learn some things with this film..
If you know already or you don't care about wines, then the silly sarcastic human side will interest you.. or not.
In wines matters, I believe it's the Hollywood movie most well done about this subject.
..time, place, characters and plot. This film had all these things but never it seemed at the same time. There were times in this film where the time and place were perfect put there was no plot or the character became absolutely fascinating but they weren't in the right place. I know that sounds absolutely stupid but that's how this film made me feel. This film is disjointed and not a cohesive whole.
A person's opinion is never stupid. If that's the experience you had, then that's what it was. Be kind to yourself. If other people do not respect your tastes or make fun of you, it means they feel threatened by your light.
No sense in joining them by judging yourself so harshly. THANK YOU for your honesty.
P.S. Sometimes when I feel weird about a film, I make a note to watch it again on another day to see if it was the film/story or just me. I did this with NO Reservations and it was def. the film!
