Meryl Streep became the greatest actress of our time after this movie. I loved the book, the movie is equally as good. I would like to comment on ltoo's retarded opinion that this was one of the funniest movies. You are either kidding or your a complete idiot.
If you really wanna cry than watch this movie. Perhaps the greatest tearjerker scene of all time was the choice scene. I watched "Sophie's Choice" not knowing at all what to expect. I assumed that the "choice" would be something commonplace in a film, like a choice between two lovers. When I found out what the choice really was, it made a very deep impression on me. It was the most gut-wrenching thing I have ever seen, in the movies or in real life. The scene is unforgettable. Streep's exceptional performance--flawless Polish accent and all--won her an Oscar, and effectively raised the standard for American actresses of her generation. No less impressive is Kevin Kline, in his movie debut, capturing the mercurial moods of the dangerously attractive Nathan. On the whole, I would rate this among the best films I've ever seen. Definitely don't miss it!
streep really brings her character to life and kline is magnificent. their constant escape into fantasy is so very understandable in two people whom, through no fault of their own, feel so completely imprisoned by the pain and suffering caused by circumstances and simple fate. 3 thumbs up!
but i have to say some books just cannot be justly made as a movie, Meryl Streep was an excellent Sophie and Kevin Kline definitely did Nathan justice but the guy who played Stingo just didnt do it for me.. all the same it is an excellent film but if you have read the book first you will realize like i said some movies cannot do the book justice
i hate this site sometimes.. why can't we open multiple windows..like in youtube..?!! so that we can download two parts simultaneously..
i got through downloading half of part 2.. in the mean time i was checking what other films were available .. i pressed part 1 of another film by accident .. so sophie's choice part 2 got replaced by part 1 of the other movie.. i'm so mad right now cuz it's gonna take forever for part 2 to load again.. ugh
nevertheless.. i am thankful that there is a site like this that has 99% of all films.. wow..
I loove this movie.. meryl is a genius.. kevin kline and peter mcnicol have given really sensitive supporting performances.. the "choice" scene is one of the most emotionally evocative scenes of all time..
This movie, I cant even begin to describe it. There was something so powerful behind the writers eyes. The actress who plaid Sophie was magnificant(sp). Its a long movie but does not keep you waiting. The love behind the movie is powerful, almost a forbidden wanting. I hope that anyone else who watches it, finds it as breath taking as I do.
