This was really good. I am glad I finally watched this. Threat and danger lies around every corner and dark intentions brew within every building In this film..I was hooked from start to finish
The friendship between Affleck and Crowe as buddies is very unbelievable, but thats a minor complaint. State Of Play is a sterling thriller 4+/5
Very good watch, keeps you on your toes. Russell crowe has so much screen presence, I'm not a big fan of ben affleck but i find him quite good when playing supporting roles. 4/5
I watched a program where a reporter interviews Crowe and when the reporter says "you had to be just like us, now you know how it is in our world", Crowe just seems angered by that and just becomes high n mighty and leaves! hahaa.. He seemed annoyed by that reporter!
Very good movie. All actors played their parts lovely. Good suspense and WHO DONNIT!! attitude in this movie. It can get kinda confusing towards the end but..you will know.
This film is a rare treat indeed. The cast, characters, storyline & dialogue were excellently directed & edited; to make this a truely enjoyable experience for descerning film buffs & casual viewers alike. I particulary enjoyed Helen Mirren's lines; which were spot on English punctuated with accurate & realistic swearing amongst her American colleagues. This may be a minor point, but it illustrates the research carried out by the screenplay writer. Please watch this riveting drama/thriller & enjoy! 8.5/10.
Apparently this movie was adapted from a six-episode British TV mini-series said to be highly complex and subtle, so being crammed into a far shorter vessel, it is not suprising that I did not manage to follow all the details of the plot. However, the main lines of it become clear, though I shall have to see it again to get it all. Those who seek non-stop violence and don't like to think too much about what they are watching and hearing are advised to look elsewhere. Russell Crowe, no pacific angel in his private life, doesn't even raise his voice in anger, and Helen Mirram, who spices her dialogue with the worst British vulgarisms, does so in a highly elegant, ladylike manner. Don't really understand the title, unless it is comparing the many twists and turns of the story to those of a baseball or football match. At one point it is said that some of the suspects have an office in the Watergate Building: a very broad hint as to the movie's theme!
This is a movie adaptation of the BBC drama of the same name. It was always going to suffer from the fact they had to fit what was bassically a mini series into a couple of hours and also adapt it to an American setting, but I think they did OK.
I saw Russel Crowe interviewed and he said his wife loved the BBC version and thought John Simm,the actor who played the role Crowe took on in the movie, was a better actor than he. He was visibly quite pissed off about it lol.
Helen Mirren, fine actor though she is, was terribly miscast in this movie. Bill Nighy did it brilliantly, and should have played the part in the film as well.
Excellent film all the way around. Not only plot but subplots for great interest. Obviously Crowe and Affleck did a magnificent job but let's not forget the rest of the cast, Helen Mirren who has yet to turn in a bad performance and Rachel McAdams who in this role did not play off of her incredible beauty but interpreted her role of dedicated reporter to perfection.
This is a great movie. The acting, the cinematography, the story were all top notch.
The subject of privatized military is also pretty interesting and real. There is a group called Blackwater that is exactly that. If you want to know more about the real stories behind these organizations watch Iraq For Sale, and No End In Sight. Also if you google Blackwater you can read an article on the controversy they were involved in.
i thought this was a really good movie. in my opinion, it didnt start of slow at all, it pulled me in from the beginning and held my attention the entire time.

i saw the whole ben afflect having a part in Sonya's murder from a mile away though.
besides that it was a really great movie. i love Rachel McAdams and im not so much a fan of Russell Crowe but he played his part very well. 4.5/5 definitely worth a watch!
Would rather watch this than Twilight any day. It does start out slow but it holds your attention. Good cast and storyline. Worth 1 watch. 8 out of 10 for me.
