An excellent older film. I had been planning to watch this for a long time, but kept forgetting. Glad I finally got around to it. Excellent performance from Dustin Hoffman. I don't know any of the other cast members but they were really good too. Sinister atmosphere and pretty intense towards the end. It's also surprisngly graphic for a 1971 film. 5/5 stars, great.
1 of hoffmans best films this was banned in england a little after its cinema release probably due to the very vivid rape scene. Over 20 years later its still as shocking as when it was released and the weird thing is the attitude towards hoffman and his wife from the local villagers isnt a million miles away from the attitude some farmers down south whould have to this day towards newcomers coming to a small village.
yeah the direction of the seduction scene was well acted and played out. It almost had me fooled I was watching a real sex scene. Particularly enjoyed how they lured Hoffman away. His character was clever minded but dim witted which I thought added a good twist. Well worth a wan.. I mean watch.
