i dont usually watch movies like this but i was surprised
it was a really good movie horrifying, science-fictional and beautiful
4/5 - it could have been better
this movie was awesome! it took everything i knew about Science Fiction and flipped it..i thought that it really pushed my imagination and i thoroughly enjoyed it. watch it and see 5/5 stars
Whoever wrote this sacrificed research and reality for fantasy. Although the moving was boring fora majority of the time, they definitely live in an interesting dream world.
4/10
:(1) the gravitational field would distort space-time so that no signal could get through to detonate the bomb at a distance like it's shown in the movie (2) no material and that includes the casing enclosing the reactives could withstand such extreme temperatures (3) Why send a manned mission when it's a million times easier to get it done by an autonomous computerised spacecraft.
Scientific inaccuracies aside, the images were brilliant and the actors did a good job. 7/10.
Where did you get the impression that the sun had a sufficient gravity field to distort space and time to such an extent? And temperture is a 2 fold misunderstanding since there are materials that will wthstand 4+ K and they used magnetical enhancment which only brings technicrats back to where they could possibly get enough energy to due that on such a grand scale.
i agree with icyndeep on the first point. Moreover, there are electromagnets here on earth ( fusion power chambers) that can repel temperatures of up to 10 million degrees. Your third point contradicts the first .You need a constant signal to correct trajectory and shield against unpredictable solar flares.
Im no expert, but a bomb can not reignite the sun and the inside of the sun is way too hot for it. Ultimately this movie is also about faith; you have to take the scientific inaccuracies with a grain of salt and just believe all this is possible. Anyway we know that God hates the sun ever since that Copernicus embarrassment.
This movie had alot of potential. I LOVE the visual effects and the in/external design of the space craft.
However, i was annoyed by a large ammount of unrealism. Don't get me wrong, it's a movie and it's supposed to be unrealistic..but it doens't do any good if ya don't give a dam about any of the characters (okay maybe one)
[SPOILER]
But he dies as he stays behind in the other ship
Acting was superb, character development was crap. The mission was loud and clear, but at least put in some flashbacks or anything that tells a story more then just floating around in space trying to save the sun.
ok so i dont see the point of this movie being made i think it needed to tell more details of the characters and how and why they where chosen, slightly predictable ending some suprises during the movie though, id say watch it once just so u can say u did but discard after..
This is a great movie. I was not sure what to expect going into it. But it definitely can hold it's own. I say give it a shot. Movie On! -- 3.5/ stars easy.
what a fantastic movie
i soo was'nt expecting that
i loved it from begining to end
just goes to show us
there is nothing more beautiful than mother nature herself
she decides not us..
10/10
the fact that ive decided to worship the sun is the reason that i really find this to be a grade A master piece. sun worship is just about the most logical religion because of the fact that u can actually see the sun!!
It's like a new 2001: A Space Odyssey. Not quite as intense, but still a great film. If you liked it check out my playlist, A Downstairs Mixup of Movies.
another danny boyle masterpiece that went unnoticed by mainstream america. the plot has been touched on before but never done to this magnitude. there were too many characters and not enough growth to even remember their names but cillian murphy, chris evans, and mark strong are very gentle on the eyes, unlike the sun over 3.1 percent. definitely worth watching 4.5/5
This movie had a lot of potential but the coolest part was the space ship itself. I found the story lacking.. I couldn't bring myself to care about the crew of this ship.
The movie movie kept getting better through the film. I have an interpretation of the ending but I was wondering if anyone had a similar or different conclusion.
Mine was
[SPOILER]
before the the ship/bomb went off to reignite the sun, God or whatever power let the scientist know that he would be successful.
Here's another in interpretation I took from a different thread..
[SPOILER]
The face of God
I think that the ending scene, where he touches the sun, is related to the crazy burned dude taking about God. Burn dude earlier said that one man would be left alone with God at the end of time. Then, he said "not your God, my God." I think that that last scene was the Kappa's moment with God. I think it was also sort of saying "in your face" to burn dude. It's very open to interpretation, but I viewed it as Kappa's moment to touch the very face of God, to be alone with God, even though that was neither the end of time nor was he the last man alive. Very poetic scene.
yeah i thoguth the film got beter and better and i absolutly loved the ending.
i read this imidiatly after because it cam to mind as the credits rolled..
HIGH FLIGHT..(a poem by John Gillespie
Oh, I have slipped these surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward i've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of; wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sun-lit silence. Hovering there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless falls of air;
Up,up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,
Where never lark nor even eagle flew;
And while, with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of god.
[SPOILER]
i think basically the ending is about the nature of God, we men with our dominion and technological advances tend to liken ourselfs to gods. but no matter our advances the awsome power of the sun will always illude our control and dominance. it is a power that will always show us our limits and yet give life to us daily. like instinct it guides us without giving us explenation. in that way the sun becomes a metephor for god, and the ending is about letting go. and accepting the limits of man. it is only in denial of such limits that we find ourself destroying the very earth itself
i can see why some would say this is slow..but actually i enjoyed the pace of it and think it worked. i find that a granade in the hand waiting to go of much more intense than an imidiate explosion..dont you? not your average film but definatly a good one and worth your time
