I bought this movie a long time ago. I never finished it. I dont even know if i still have it. I couldnt get past the 1st 20 minutes. I tried watching it twice. I thought my dates would enjoy it..but instead they fell asleep..and so did i.
he made me watch it with him yesterday..
Fine thriller of the 1940s murder case and tragic love story. Believe me, the murder of Elizabeth "Betty" Short is inspired by the real events, but except the other characters including detectives are non-fictional.
This movie was horrible! It dragged incredibly slowly and it had almost nothing to do with the actual murder case, not to mention in the parts that it does have anything to do with the murder case it's horribly wrong.

I can't say I was paying much attention to this movie,
but overall, I didn't really understand it.
I'm debating whether I want to watch it again tomorrow,
so maybe I'll get it..
but it wasn't the most interesting of films.
It really didn't have anything to do with the true story of Elizabeth Short. For the record, this truly happened to the woman. This movie is all about porn, and they made her look like a slut. The guy/girl that wrote the book and the people that made the movie shamed her. They both disgraced that poor woman. They will go to hell. Bad Movie. 2/5.
The whole idea of this movie had such great potential!..Too bad this movie turned out to be such a disgrace. Titling it the "Black Dahlia" was a pretty deceptive move too, seeing as the movie had very little to do with the intriguing murder of Elizabeth Short. It decided to focus on things like lesbian porn and incest (just to name a few) instead. AND as if making up such a solid "conclusion" to the whole murder didn't totally destroy all the mystery that surrounds the actual case of the Black Dahlia, the "conclusion" was totally pulled-out-of-my-ass-awful!! As the movie dragged on and on, it became more and more of a freakish circus-like nightmare. I found myself waiting the endless 2 hours? or so it lasted, for it to start actually getting good, praying it would somehow redeem itself..needless to say, it never did. I was disappointed enough by this movie to warn basically everyone I knew NOT to waste their time or money on this ridiculous movie. So now I warn you, DON'T SEE THE BLACK DAHLIA! Spare yourself from the torture of this bizarre, horrendousness!! (if you haven't been unfortunate enough to have already seen it).
The movie was entirely depicted out of the book The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy. (Even down to the names of the characters) And anyone who's heard of the book know that while it features true events the story is a work of FICTION, so of course the movie can be nothing more then FICTION. Its was suppose to be, nothing more then a alliteration of a literature piece. So of course you can't expect to find the true murder case presented on it. It simply presented exactly what the book did ( including those violent and offensive themes) and also the ending was also simply that. So you can't condemn this movie based on those values, so there was no mystery absolved here. This book was published in 1987, this concept has been around for years. This movie is for fans of the book, not necessarily the murder. And definitely not for those who are ignorant.
This web site I found is actually trying to prove this story as being credible. Its interesting if you want some insight. There is actual pictures of the mutilated body, so its not for the weak-of-stomach.
I love the era movies, the lighting, the clothes, the cars, the manners and all that goes with old school life but other than that there was nothing about this movie that I liked. They solved a murder which has never been solved, they muddied the story with side stories. It was just a poorly structured movie. It could have had about 1/2 of it cut out. I love the cinematography but other than that..blah!
this movie was filmed nicely, but the plot seems completely random and very scattered. even if you know about the real murder case, this movie doesn't make any sense. don't waste your time watching this movie.
I went to the theatre to see this film..I remember telling my friend that this film was the biggest waste of money in box office history.. It really is awful!
