i thought the movie was boring until i seen the bridge blow then i thought the movie was getting good,oops, the end, and everyone is still prisoner with a new job of pulling a train out of the water.no comparison too todays war movies.
How can it be historically incorrect if it isn't about an actual event? It's not like Elizabeth or Braveheart which distort history. It is fiction, and a good story.
There was no bridge on the river Kwai.
This is a fiction loosely based on the construction of the Burma Railroad. Actual conditions on the prisoners was far worse than depicted, (13,00 Commonwealth, Dutch, and American POWs died, 80-100,00 civilians), and the river was the Mae Klong. Renamed in the 60's to the Khwae Yai!

Well, it won 7 ocsars! Can you believe it! I first saw the movie as a kid (8yrs old or so). It was great as a kid. The Cubans were invading Florida!
Looking at it now, it is lame. The acting is poor and the directing worse. I've a hard time putting this movie anywhere. It was a very acclaimed film, but a bad one. It glossed over the Japanese atrocities of the war and that is unforgivable.
This is a good story ,not a true one just a good story and lots of good acting..But remember its just a war movie and not for real ok..It's a 4 stars + and has top actors in it..Love the song they sing..Love William Holden and wish the drinking had not killed him..He was one of the best ..
This is a great movie. It has a good storyline and some award winning acting. It's just to bad that the actual historical events get in the way. It has you believe that the Japanese, who've been building bridges in southeast asia for 30 years prior to the war, need the help of the British POW's in order to plan and build a 'proper bridge'. This is a great classic movie. I went a long time without seeing this film, I regret not watching it sooner. Wonderful storyline, just a great piece of work.
A great movie, realistic with just the right combination of drama and action. William Holden was a super actor and proved it once again in this movie. The location almost places you in the country of Thailand.
