As someone else said, "this isn't a movie, it's an experience" It's the stuff life is made of. I'm not even going to say this is fiction, because my mother is from Georgia and was born in the late 1930's and aside from the abuse( sexual or verbal) said this IS how life was. That's not to say abuse didn't happen,but thank God, it just didn't happen to her or in our family. This epic is a composite history of the lives of African-Americans and Americans of European decent during that era. The color Purple is my favorite movie of all time! But it's more than just a movie, it's American history.
this isn't a movie its an experience, wow!! how i adore this movie, the best of the best, an after all these years it can still make me cry, from 1-10 its a definite huge 10:)
My senior year(class of 86) we had to write a report on either the book and movie of The Shining or the book and movie of The Color Purple. I was literally the only one who chose The Color Purple and got excused when they were all watching The Shining(No offense to Jack Nicholson..he's awesome,but I dont like extreme violence)
Anyway,Color Purple was great and you really felt for Celie. Mister was a jerk,but he got a little redeemed in the end. I think everyone should at least watch it once!
Where do I even begin this movie is a classic, this movie was made 1985 when I was 5 yrs old this movie was a smach hit back in the 1980's as well as today. I didn't know Steven Spielberg had directed it, but then again I'm not surprised either as I am a fan of his work as his other smach hit movie was E.T. which was made in 1982 .
I grow up watching this movie back when I was 10 - 11yrs old with my mother and my sisters I loved this movie then and I still love it now as it reminds me of my childhood.
This movie is not just a classic, but also fantasic too the actors and actress like - Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover and with the help of Oprah Winfrey and the rest of the cast were fantasic too as it was them who made the movie entertaining to watch from start to finish.
I have to give this movie 5 stars as its a classic, as well as 10 / 10 as the stars made it entertaining too I would even add it to my playlist and watch it again but on my dvd as it a better picture.
If you haven't seen it yet, where the hell have you been again this movie is a classic and a MUST SEE movie of all time oh and you need to have some tissues on hand too as its sad
I adore this movie and it has inspired me as a woman in life and the choices I make .The book I have read before and it is one of the best books i have ever read. When reading it I cried as i did in the film.The casting was superb shug was exactly how i imagined her.
I heard they may make a theatre version of the story if so I'd love to see it.
Please watch this film it may change the way you think about things.
this is one of my all-time favorite movies! a true classic, very emotional,spiritual and moving. i believe the character of Ceelie is an inspiration to every woman, no matter the race or age. i definitely recommend this movie to you guys, its a must-see!
I have always loved this movie, even though I cry through the whole thing. It's one of the few movies that I will just sit down and watch with anyone. 5/5 if I could have given it more I would have.

Thank-you God for I am still here and I am yours. And no matter how long the suffering may seem, I know I am being cleaned, and changed for something, someone and someplace greater.
this film is a very sad film i havnt cried once yet but only a little bit my mum has loads since ages ago and she still watches it now and still cries but the ending is lovely lol i love the bit where she gets to see her kids that is soo good bye bye im a new user!!
