i have always thought that the exorcist was overrated in the entertainment value,but i cant help but to realize that this is a brilliant horror movie for its time..not scary ,just a well made piece of artistry ..for 1973, 5/5..for now,3.5/5..
i expected more actually..but it was good..there are sometin gs i dont understand..y her?? the devil says "do u know what your daughter did to me"..what did she do?? and what is the chain gotta do with all thiis??
This is an all time classic of the horror genre. It is the pinnacle of what horror can achieve and is the benchmark for all horror films to be judged against. The storyline is superb and the special effects used still keep people wondering how they were achieved. A truly ground breaking film that has stood the test of time and will always be seen as a classic. Possibly the greatest horror film ever made. 5/5
5/5.. The hell with these cornball a_s people. This was and is the movie to measure all horror film by. By far the scariest and creepiest. The greatest. Not even a remake can make this better. The cast was perfect. Storyline was based on a supposed true story which gives it more of a real feel to it. When i was little i snuck behind my mothers back to watch this movie. and i regreted it ever since. I could even wash my hair with my eyes closed i had to hold my head back, Cuz i thought she was rite behind the shower curtain. # 1 scary movie of all time. Handz Down!!
the first time i watched this i was 13 and it scared the CRAP out of me. i watched it again when i was 26, and it scared me yet again! now, i'm 41, and it was funny as HELL! this is one of the best horror films of all time. it scares you, makes you think, and makes you sleep with the lights on! 5+/5
When I first saw this movie, it wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be, especially considering all hype about it being 'the scariest movie of all time". However, it is definitely creepy at some parts, and I love this movie very much. It is must see and must buy for all horror fans.

Considering the Movie was made in 1973 and technology was not as great or even comes close to what we have today. Not to mention it was a major hit nation wide.
I should know..I was 9 when I saw it at the drive -in and let me tell you..iI was very scary and very believable. I dare anyone to watch it again, alone in the dark. with all the doors and windows locked tight. remember to keep a crucifix near by. You never know whats going to jump out at you from behind your ..computer chair.lol
i watched this movie 3 years ago and i swear this is the creepiest film in the whole world could not sleep at night time now i only sleep during the day
I'm watching it right now, I'm alone with just my dogs. it's 1:55 AM and it's raining..well not raining but it's humid. anyway..back to Regan and her potty mouth.

Though bit over-reviewed, I throw in my two cents by saying that even in the days of Saw this film is still disturbing. It is not overly gory or disgusting, but carries with it a timeless classic of genuine horror, appealing to the oldest of human archetypes, the unknown, untouchable fear.
Whatever age you were born into, you cannot view this film without leaving you're lights on at night, and wondering whether or not there is perhaps a hell,;and if there is, what creatures reside there. A timeless, terrifying film.

I seen this movie first when it first got on HBO i was 12 yrs old But back then they left so much scenes out of it But i still watch it I have all 3 Exorcism movies I love Horror But they cant beat this movie unless they try to remake it so who will they get Maybe Linda Blair can be the mom this time lol but now shes old But this was the best horror I ever seen I hope you guys know this every time they make Exorcist movies some one always dies in them
BEST HORROR MOVIE OF ALL TIME! I first saw it when i was about 9 years old and was scared to death of the dark because of it..lol..Like one other movie watcher said "never gets old".
I seen this movie at the drive-in back in the mid 70's when i was 15 years old and it traumatized my sister who was a year younger than i am, i finally faced my own fears and watched it last week in the daytime and it wasnt so bad, although that night when i was trying to fall asleep flashes of Regan's face while she was possessed kept flashing through my mind, and yes i had to turn my tv on to fall asleep, this movie is very disturbing on so many levels and still scares me and i am in my late forties now.
yes, as a matter of fact, the exorcism is not really something kept in a closet. Catholics, Orthodoxes and Jews have each a distinct rite of exorcism, which is sadly sometimes not used because of the whole trouble one has to go through to get permission to do one, the truth is though, possession is a true thing..
As a modern day teen I honestly have to say I wish I was around more back when these movies were made, today horror movies are nothing but crap storylines, boobs, and gore. Movies like The Exorcist are what I am all about, great theme's like Tubular Bells, and amazing storylines with really freak stuff that happens. So much better then modern crap they make. Long live the 70's and 80's Horror movies.
