i agree with mikethee1, this was a bunch of incoherent nonsense..the person who wrote this scenario must have been high when he wrote this (i really got it, all the metaphors and the correlation of the stories , but it was just useless, cheesy, religious , cheap crap that most of us could put together)..they could have stuck to the main story and it would have been much better..
It's the type of movie where you either love it or hate it. I loved it because it is so unique and different. Not the best movie to watch when you are in the mood for a faced paced action film though.
WELL i get the movie, it was very nice, except for the buddist monk part that hugh had to play with the tree in a spere or whatever. the movie would have been soo much better if that crap had been left out and the book itself had been the main part of the movie, or just cut out the modern part and stick with the my queen and soldiers and looking for the tree of life and oh yeah just call this movie "the tree" or something. acting was great, hugh did a wonderful job and i wanted to cry with him. but it left a big hang! did that expieremt continue to work? where did they find that tree? i mean so many unanswered q's. other then that, movie was watchable. i will rate it a 2.5/5
I hate when people call a movie brilliant when its just chaotic thoughts of a director mushing a film together only thing brilliant was the actors in making this nonsense work. As for reading of the book was fill in junk and why was this called the fountain when it was a tree any way i felt the love got the meaning A++ for the actors and visuals.
Okay.. well now, that was totally bizarre.. maybe the strangest movie I have ever seen. However, it kept me intrigued and took me far away from my own reality for an hour and 36 minutes. And oh yeah.. Hugh Jackman is HOT!! :-)
You need a degree to understand this movie. I didnt finish watching it. Was like reading a book from the middle and then going to the start.. confusing..
a little exaggerated because it was a simple life and death story, which obviously is understood easily, i think, yet the movie went on in an extreme manner of elaborating the subject, which leaves you with the impression that the movie pushes the way the subject is developed not that it is an unimportant issue,death and life, but because it is very clear and understandable how both work or happen; i also think the movie failed to treat other important facts of life that relate to the main course of this movie; but still good movie and great acting of course.

Umm.. yea. Someone explain it to me because I am SO confused. I've watched this twice and I still just dont get it. 4/10 because Hugh Jackman is in it.

this film truly is passion incarnate
its rare to see a movie so beautifully and lovingly made. i have seen this several times and it shall probably be my all time favourate movie for a good long time.
some might describe this as a religous film and its true there is a lot of religous referance, paticularly buddist in concept. but for me this film is much more spiritual than it is religous, that is to say that it would appeal to people of all diferant religions, but you do need to be open minded to fully apreciate it. there is a great depth of meaning within it and i suspect that meaning will be as varied as the people who watch it. the visuals are utterly beautifull and the film as a whole is completly captivating. if you want to watch a movie that will make your eyes widen with the stunning visuals as well as tell a story that will make you just go "wow" a movie that will leave you in awe and make you think deeply and yet leave space for your own imagination then this is the film for you. its probably an aquired taste but its also a master piece of cinema. my rating=3/3 for performance.. 3/3 for story/plot dev.. 3/3 for entertainment/artistic merit.. and 1/1 for spark of genius..yep thats an impresive and well deserved overal rating of 10/10. and a worthy addition to my new but growing playlist
the story is decent the parallels are there throughout the movie a lot of meaning can be pulled from it but only if you are somewhat of a religious buff. hints of three religions and the scientific mindset interlace a lot. The visuals in the movie are really great you get a kind of repetition with screen shot style and general scene setup that cues you on what parts a paralleling the others. If you expect an obvious ending that is definitive without having to ponder it you'll be disappointed this is because it they won't spell it out for you-

there are three [or four depending how you look at it] separate endings with definite meanings that parallel human decisions and the end result more or less.
If you really like movies challenge you to thinnk a little deeper you might enjoy this. Here is my short interp' of the endings don't read til you watch the movie.

First Ending the death of Izzy is foreshadowing of the other endings, Dr. Creo pursues the cure til the end and because of it finds the cure in the form of a mayan tree sample with youth restoring prpeties. But he is too late to save Izzy and missed the time with her before the end and still pursues his maddening search to cure death, but Izzy is at peace in the end leaving the world "with grace". The second ending,Tomas seeks the eternal life for selfish reasons only to find it in the form of "rebirth", he finds his "end" in the same way he started life "kicking and screaming" a type of pitiful end (fearing death). The third ending, is with Tom in the far future when he carries the tree of life to Xibalba in order to save it, he haunted by the pasts lives. Since Xibalba (a.k.a Place of Fear/Fright) is the underworld Tom is facing the fear of his own mortallity as well as the death of the Tree of life. Tom accepts his death with grace as a sacrifice to all life reviving the Tree of life and being reborn as part of it-"The Road to Awe" and the ultimate "Grace". With the fourth ending it all comes together, we go back to the beginning of the movie and Dr.Creo changes his decision and spends what little time he has with Izzy. When Izzy dies Dr. Creo plants the seed for the tree of life on Izzy's grave, the unwitting cure to death, the whole my father became the tree, then the bloom, the bird ate the fruit and my father flew with the birds thing. The you realize Izzy was the tree in the future, The obtained immortallity and were married into the new tree of life. By accepting death with grace and finding the way to rebirth, taking the road to awe. I also have another guess at the fourth ending, he may have thought back to waht he wished he would have done while finishing Izzy's book then took a seed he got continuing his research on the tree of life nad planted it at her grave. The main point is it all comes full circle, history repeats without end, and all things are always reborn.
that's the shortest explanation of it i can write. they happen at different points in time but they to be simultaneous events. better if you watch it and get the meaning the explanation is a little cryptic so people only people who watched the movie get some of the refernces.
