I didn’t think the movie was entertaining at all. I felt like a voyeur observing from another side of the planet unable to change or do anything. Maybe that’s what the writers and projectionist of this story might wanted us to do. 3/5
The movie was better than I expected it to be. The ending is very real for alot of soldiers. Returning home is so unfamiliar that they prefer to return back to the war zone where some find comfort because the other soldiers have become family and they understand each other emotionally and mentally.
One of the most lifelike (and "deathlike") movies I have ever seen. I cannot sing its praises too highly. Some say it is a propaganda film, but if so, its message is that today's Iraq is hell on earth, the the civilian population is suffering cruelly from suicidal fanatics and the American servicemen there are doing their best to help resolve an almost intractable, confused mess. Whether Iraq should have been invaded in the first place and if there would have been such a mess if it hadn't been, is another matter. I was disappointed that Ralph Fiennes got so little screen time, and I didn't even recognise David Morse as he flashed by, but I suppose these major stars might otherwise have stolen the thunder of the relatively unknown major protagonists. The James character seems to have a slightly milder case of the mental trouble that the Russian roulette-playing Christopher Walken was suffering from in "The Deerhunter". Btw, I still don't understand the title.(10/10)
My friend told me about this movie, so I had to see it. It was so good! A lot of action! but also a lot of non action, there was a good balance. The way they filmed it was in a continuous shot, so it looks more documentary like. 5/5
I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this movie.
It was good, but dragged at parts, and the characters were hard to like at times.
Give it a watch though.

i totaly saw this a month ago or so and thought i had posted a comment..so i'll do that now..Ok, this film was pretty incredible..The quality of the picture was top notch with the camera always giving you a nice view and never getting unfocused or "shakey" like in some movies..The unit itself was believable as when you lose someone a replacement is sometimes hard to find so a little confrontation there is a nice touch..As far as actual characters go i dont think the main is over cockey or unbelievable..There are some crazy bastards out there who get off on this type of stuff so to say he wouldnt act like that is maybe not correct..I think one of the underlying messages of the film as that some ppl are who they are and even tho he has a family he doesnt feel as comfortable being home as he does when he is disposing of bombs or shooting stuff up..maybe after having that rush nothing compares..Either way, all war movies are propaganda really as who wants to watch a movie where you get your ass kicked? If you got in a fight and totally got beatdown and then a week later saw your friend posted a video of it on youtube would you want to watch it? not me..i watch alot of war movies and this is one of my favorites already..i also like the we were soldiers one with mel gibson but this one was a better film i think..
This might be my favorite film from 2009. Really, really close to it. I thought it was just a pure masterpiece. I thought the action scenes when the bomb does blow up is just so cool of how you see the dust on a old car move. It was so cool. Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie were great and I thought Brian Geraghty gave a standout performance. Wonderful, wonderful film.
I don't understand why they did not let the robot take the charge to the bomb in the beginning, it only lost one wheel, it could have pulled the cart the rest of the way. The person or persons that thought that up for shock value is dumb!

The Hurt Locker is a film that has a war back drop but i saw something else in this gem too. a film about purpose. some ppl love what they do for many reasons. Wills reason seemed to be because he could. is a cowboy? is a hero? is he both? does he do the right thing because of the so called RUSH? or is it because its just the Right thing to do? i enjoyed the performances, and the shaky cam as well as the sharp editing. many will see the BIG BAD IRAQ terrorists setting bombs. as much as i play war games on my Playstation3 it doesnt even come close to what may be going on over there so i cant say no one can really unless ur in it. i have some friends there and ive gotten letters from them and honestly i still cant know its something u have to feel not on pieces of paper or on tv. but imo most ppl will look at this as a war message or such, which i can understand i just hope ur able to see the pure goodness of its performances and let ur feelings about the Real War take a breather. but if ppl can get mad at a film like Avatar and draw crazy conclusions about a message rather then enjoying its splendor then well...................
An extremely well shot and realistic movie about bomb disposal teams in Iraq. It has been tipped to clean up at the Oscars and should definitely do well in categories such as cinematography. It's a tense, unforgiving depiction of what these men go through on a daily basis and the story is made more exciting and unexpected by using the '24' technique

The biggest name actors are killed off within about five minutes of appearing, to enhance the shock value. An increasing trait since TV's '24' started the trend of killing off regular characters you thought would be the last ones to be killed.
The best movie about this particular war that I have seen, and from an interesting perspective.
In the summer of 2004, Sergeant J.T. Sanborn and Specialist Owen Eldridge of Bravo Company are at the volatile center of the war, part of a small counterforce specifically trained to handle the homemade bombs, or Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), that account for more than half of American hostile deaths and have killed thousands of Iraqis. A high-pressure, high-stakes assignment, the job leaves no room for mistakes, as they learn when they lose their team leader on a mission. When Staff Sergeant William James takes over the team, Sanborn and Eldridge are shocked by what seems like his reckless disregard for military protocol and basic safety measures. And yet, in the fog of war, appearances are never reliable for long. Is James really a swaggering cowboy who lives for peak experiences and the moments when the margin of error is zero - or is he a consummate professional who has honed his esoteric craft to high-wire precision? As the fiery chaos of Baghdad swirls around them, the men struggle to understand and contain their new leader long enough for them to make it home. They have only 38 days left in their tour of Iraq, but with each new mission comes another deadly encounter, and as James blurs the line between bravery and bravado, it seems only a matter of time before disaster will strike.

This is a good movie that got cheated on the ratings. Gives one an inside look at what our military has to go through daily! We need to know this is WAR not a "criminal action".
camera work was excellent but other than that i just dont see what the big deal was maybe its because i despise war movies..but everyone said this was one of the big movies for 2009 so i gave it a go and i really wish i could get back the 2hrs and 5mins of my life back. i hated it.
i have to say i loved it, i heard it was good and it was. simple basis for some hard emotion, kids who go in to 'be the best', i liked that line-cause lets face it your never gonna be as good as in the advert..well i know i wont be.
the dead guy replacement was a wicked at showing that job then self, and if you do it the other way round in the field then-yah your going down!
