Fugitive Dr. Bruce Banner must utilize the genetic accident that transforms him into a giant, rampaging hulk to stop a former soldier that purposely becomes an even more dangerous version.
All right, so while its not that bad and the tendency of Hollywood to substitute well written stories with some depth to them, for flashy special effects is nothing new, this pilfering of the Marvel and D.C comic book archives is wearing a bit thin.
I tried several times (unsuccessfully) to watch the first one (via youku) and based on the reviews for it and what I've seen in this "much better sequel," I suppose I should be thankful for missing it.
I'd really prefer not to say anything negative about any of the top actors in this, because I'm a fan of all them. However, their performances were actually lack luster.
Though I do have to pose the question, "what the heck is going on in Hollywood" that so many good actors are giving credibility to these types of films? Sure it's a guaranteed box office draw and I'm sure provides a decent paycheck, but has all integrity gone out the window? I'm not against films made the Comic book genre, when they are done well, but this imply wasn't done that way.
The story here is well known. David Banner (Edward Norton) a scientist who is exposed to high levels of gamma radiation, attempts to curb the mutative effects of this from destroying himself and the world. Liv Tyler plays Betty, his love interest, who supports him in his efforts and Tim Roth and William Hurt (who coincidentally played a similar role in one of his earlier films; Altered States) divide the role of villain(s).
There were several points outside of the 2 dimensional story that kind of bothered me. For one, in the scenes where the Hulk first interacts with Betty [spoiler](especially when they escape to a high top hideaway) I found that the scenes, too closely, reminded me of King Kong. Another major problem is the CGI. While some people can just accept low quality “special” effects because film makers are doing something with them that "looks cool, " I can not.
CGI is simply NOT an adequate substitute for acting, a story, or even for complete special effects. Even in Iron Man, they used a real outfit at some points and the character was real in many scenes. Understandably with The Hulk this is not entirely possible, but then the film makers run the risk (and run amok) of completely compromising the entire film, which they did.
Films like the original Batman with Michael Keaton and Superman with Christopher Reeve, both had decent special effects that would be entertaining even in today's market.
It's the excessive substitution of any well written stories, with outrageous effects, that is more than a slap in the face to fans who are willing to shell out $10 a ticket to see, essentially, a widescreen video game.
If only fans would see how they are being manipulated by the greed of Hollywood, through the iconic figures they grew up with and loved, then maybe they'd stop buying into these films and get a higher quality of film made.
Though THAT would probably take a superhero beyond one Hollywood, or the comic book industry, could or has, yet to dream up.
If you like the standard fare of comic book hero films being made of late, then you probably won't have a problem with this one. If the phrase “Ignorance is bliss” is one you apply to films, then by all means, enjoy.
the CGI on this movie was poor! On many movies these days they make the mistake of not want to pay real actors who express the qualities that help us connect with the characters, the hulk CGI was better then this one!
this is what happens to people who use too much caffiene..its called psydo-intelectilization..the false belief that what your saying means anything..just take pitty and learn..nothing can be done for this poor soul..
Guys come on, Tony Stark was in the end of this film for the same reason Samuel L was in the end of Iron Man, they're setting it all up for the Avengers movie.
The 1st one definitely had better and more CGIs then this one but this one looks much cooler and stronger with just little effects. Definitely had a stronger opponent but the end fight should've been a bit longer. Enjoyed it. Even Iron Man gets involved and tries to be partners with the army to capture Hulk. Thats for the next sequel. If Iron Man gets along in the 3rd movie then obviously there will be need for more CGIs than this and the 1st movie combined so to the makers of HULK , get your ass movin!
This is how Hulk should be monstrous super-hero, the romance, the signature moves e.g the clap and of course an arch nemesis to fight with in an epic showdown. If you are reading this comment and you've yet to see this but seen the first one please do not let that horse manure turn you off this comic-book masterpiece of a movie it's 5 times a better movie then its original which is very rare as it's the sequel. Stan Lee and Marvel were very clever in starting fresh for the sequel after the letdown of 'Hulk' by giving a new cast, new director, a villain from Hulk's world and a new look for the hero himself. Everything just worked out nicely and this movie was extremely entertaining throughout with it's fast paced action and heart-pounding fights it's just brilliant so before i rattle on and on please watch this its well worth it :)
[SPOILER]
O yeah there was also the obvious hint of a third installment at the end when Stark (ironman) makes an appearance at the end
if u know like i know this movie is a complete upset..there probably were better actors and a better looking hulk. but the hulk he was not in this film they lacked to many of his physical attributes he was more like a raging king kong instead of the incredible hulk..hahahaha!! jumping from building to building..ha the real incredible hulk can jump over buildings an run almost 300mph and in the day time he is the gray hulk not green..i really hope they do a better job on the next one. They were both descent movies but i must admit part one had the hulk down more as he really is in the comics..i am very dissappointed
I found this movie to be superbly done. The FX were brilliant, by far the best yet. Movies like the Transformers are difficult to make out. The FX are not paced out enough for the viewer to actually 'see' what is going on. But this movie.. well.. this movie lets you see it all. Excellent! 5/5
Awesome adaptation far better that the previous effort with great textured characters and complex intrigue. The cinematography is top notch and the effects work better.
The pacing is generous and builds to an impressive climax that will leave you exhilarated.
its the loudest movie I ever seen thats for sure, Norton makes a decent Banner, Liv scrapes by with her good looks, sweet voice and wet T-shirt, CGI was top notch, should have been a lot longer and explained a lot more, the end was a bit rushed for my taste, but overall, a good time for Hulk fans, 8/10 turn up the surround and enjoy
Ah, reminds me of my youth an reading comics late into the night. I have lost count how many times I have seen this movie. For a couple of hours I get to be a kid again an shake the ground..
im so dissappointed..the hulk is a more powerful superhero than this. He fights comic book characters like thor they need to do a better job next time 3/5. It's watchable but not completely accurate
excellent comeback. i liked ed norton a whole lot better than the first guy. where the tags come from? lou ferrigno? what did he have to do with past two movies? nothing:PP 2 thumbs up from wychek.
i honestly expected more from this movie hell i expected more from the first one. theyll get it right eventually..this one was twice as good as the first tho, cant wait to see the ironman vs the hulk..they tease u with seeing tony stark.
this is probably my favourite superhero movie of all time this is how a hulk movie should be made . The first one hulk should not be seen even on a shop shelf it is some disease to hulk fans not even a disease a virus and disease , but the director of this one knew needed all new actors , a new look for hulk and a proper villain not bruce banners dad. This is a spoiler read the spoiler if you want to but it ruins the ending ok here it is
[SPOILER]
at the end before the credits it shows the general drinking then tony stark (iron man) comes in and says "I heard you had a problem " the general replies and says "look whos talking" after tony stark replies and says"were putting together a team" the general replies and says "whos we" then tony stark smiles.
so
[SPOILER]
that means there will be the avengers in the next hulk movie thats gonna be bloody brilliant
awesome movie..WAAYY better than the last Hulk they made..this one made the last movie look like a cheap picture..must watch.
Also Edward Norton one of the best actors of our time.
