a must see - , this kept me glued to the screen from start to end, and i loved the religious bit, i think its probably more true than anyone will give it credit for. most religions must have started by a rumour or a good bull story, and escalated from there. but hey thats just my opinion..
this seems to be the newest trend since the 70s of movies, tv going on re: the UN-hero, hero [or heroine, for that matter] the ones that are NOT strictly hollywood types. i fell in love w/gevais during his HBO show XTRAS; i love his wry [self-effacing] sense of humor and his compassion for the characters he plays is quite a joy to watch- he is absolutely charming! THIS IS A GEM OF A MOVIE. this movie is hilarious, poignant and thought-provoking - poking fun at us mere humans for behaving as we do - human.

So if I was to say that this film is totally outstanding Brilliant, and Wonderful, then I would have my three strikes and I would be out! When you watch this film you will understand what I am saying!..lol
It’s real dry and drab, without any cutting edge to it! Such a pity!
It wasn't horrible but it wasn't good either.. I was wondering why the rating was so low on this movie, so finally I had to check it out and it's earning it's rating now.. I expected it to be a lot funnier considering the all star cast it had.. If your really bored or really like Ricky Gervais then you might like it. I thought it was a waste of time.. 1.5/5..
this movie was very funny start to finish and original, although if your highly religious i wouldnt recomend it, makes fun of religion alot, because lets face it if there is no lying then there is no religion, got to love the smartass aspect of this movie, sorry if i cant use that
The movie is fresh, original and funny. It does not subscribe to the typical hollywood flick so if you are looking for a "Typical" movie, this is not it. Its different and offers a very funny twist to Western Ideology.
This is like the funny version of Ron Howard films. I love it! Its a simple, funny, witty movie. I love the idea behind this film. I'd like to see more of these films
the plot of this movie was so very thin..I can't believe all the people who thought this was a funny movie..Laughs few and far between..it was boring..much better comedies to be seen..2/5
I thought this film was ok, however it wasnt really laugh out loud funny. I liked the storyline, the main idea was really clever and it put a good twist on what would have been another boring romantic comedy. It reminded me of ''Pleasantville'' quite alot, especially the journey the characters go on after finding something new. It was a decent watch, nothing special. 4/5
There is not enough ink in my keyboard to tell you how crappy this was. Suffice it to say, find out where the reasoning and logic centers of your brain are and sear them with a hot poker. Then you may have a chance of enjoying this film. I did like Jennifer.(who wouldn't) No seriously, she did a good job with what she had to work with. I also thought the development of the love story wasn't bad. But, for all the other stuff 2/5 Take your chances you might like it.(On another note clockers 121 is right. It was an end around on religion)
Movies may not be real. But what makes some movies enjoyable is at least a hint of realism. Especially ones of this nature. Or didn't "you"(r) mommy say that to you.
I think movies are more enjoyable when it's beyond the realism. We live in our everyday reality and a little bit of impossible, and fiction could be a little escape and fun.
Did you notice the 'SOME' in my statement. Also there is the word 'HINT'. So, as you can see I allowed for the spattering of impossible and fantasy. What must have that realism, imo, is the inter-action between characters and the development of the story line. There are always shades of grey and we all want a good show. It is just that we all don't agree on what makes one. (=
Great concept, but the movie could have been a lot better. One time watchable. Hopefully 2-5 years from now someone else will take the foundation of the film and make a way better movie. Too much emphasis on his physicality, as the basis of "loserdom". I mean seriously, we all know losers come in all shapes and sizes. Would have been a way better film if they focused on lying, and how we are all manipulated by lies. I really only laughed during his exchanges with Tina Fey, when he was at the casino, when he was at the bar with his friends, his flash back when talking about his dad, when he was lying in bed and the Coke commercial came on, and the very beginning when he meet Jennifer Garner, a total of like 7 times throughout the whole movie. I'm not saying it was awful, just that when you see the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about, and you'll understand why I say if it had stuck to the story line expressed in those scenes which I said made me laugh, the movie would have been better and truer to what I think it wanted to be. But that's just one woman's opinion.
