Six Californians start a club to discuss the works of Jane Austen, only to find their relationships -- both old and new -- begin to resemble 21st century versions of her novels.
Kevin Zegers, Maria Bello, Kathy Baker, Maggie Grace, Hugh Dancy & Jimmy Smits I mean all were great and are great, the storyline is GREAT, hilarious movie.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! (pant pant) It is a simple yet pretty (short of almost beautiful) story that has a sub-texts or echoes of Austen's themes to real people (though it is still people in a Hollywood movie) Nevetheless, heartwarming especially that I am an ardent fan of Jane Austen. And as for Hugh Dancy (like melting in sweets..in a nice way)..:D
i have never read any of the Jane Austen novels, but this movie made me want to. i loved everyone in it, they were all amazing in their parts. this has moved up to one of my favorite movies i think. 9/10
Personally, I've only read Pride and Prejudice and saw the movie of Sense and Sensibility (and am deeply ashamed I haven't read the books yet). So, the movie got me really excited about reading them all.
Now, about the movie, it's so freakin' adorable! I love Emily Blunt, but I really thought the whole accent thing was weird, and I really loved her character there! At first I thought all the husbands were annoying gits.. I won't spoil it. And.. Hugh Dancy! AAH! He has the most cute American-Obviously-British accent in the whole world! Gah, I wish he could replace Robert Pattinson in Twilight if he wasn't too freakin' old! I love that actor, and he was so gullable, adorable, sexy and cute in this movie! Why can't all men be so funny.. and all the above!
What I didn't like was Emily Blunt's character's student - whoever understood, great, but whoever hasn't: Go see it! It's amazing!
The book references were awesome, and I truly believe they should make more of this kind!
This is such an incredibly sweet movie. I love how all of the characters evolved--from the beginning to the end, especially Emily Blunt's, Prudie. Beautiful cast, wonderful acting, and great, realistic storyline. I also love Hugh Dancy's character too--so many awkward moments for Grigg!
The movie was good except for the whole lesbian story line. And I didn't appreciate them implying that Jane whote a lesbian into P&P. First of all, being a lesbian doesn't make you "unromantic". Second of all, these books were written in a time when they knew right from wrong and homosexuality is definately wrong! It's not genetics, people, it's bad behavior. You can't change you sex, color, or race but there are former homosexuals. Twin tests also prove it's not genetic.
lighten up! the movie was about setting jane austen LIKE characters into the 21st century (not the characters themselves), and seeing how they would cope, who they would be, what they would do. the novel/film didn't imply anything about pride and prejudice. how can you have a movie about the 21st century without all sorts of sexualities? are you implying that homosexuality is WORSE than the killings of hundreds of thousands, millions even, of innocent people, global warming, and political corruption? because those things are truly detrimental to society, and can be changed as well, and you're definition of wrong ends at homosexuality.
sorry, getting back to the movie, i LOVED IT!!!
loved it.. this is a great movie, with great stories, but real stories, not those cheesy and unreal ones.. if you like jane austen's books you will love this movie:)
Awesome movie! I like how each of the book club members resembled a character from the Austen books. If you loved the movie, you should give the books a try. Mansfield Park is the best to start with in my opinion. Give it a try, you never know what you may find.
this is a great book 2 film adaptation.. the cast was perfect and the changes made from the book were nice yet simple. a great all around atory. i love each one of the books! :)
i thought this was kinda boring..
i have only watched 4 of Austen's work
& surely i'll watch the last 2.
i enjoyed watching this film.
It juz summed up all the novels..
I was reluctant to watch this at first, the storyline seemed boring to me and I've never read Jane Austen. I'm very glad I decided to watch it though, it was a great film. Very romantic with a lot of humor, kept me entertained and I loved the ending. 9/10
