A reporter is drawn to a small West Virginia town to investigate a series of strange events, including psychic visions and the appearance of bizarre entities.
This was a hard film to judge because it has aspects of alot of different genres. I would describe it as a suspense/thriller because these are the emotions that i felt most whilst watching. It did have some scary moments in aswell. Thought it was above average, however a little slow moving and hard to follow. Was a good watch 4/5
this was not a horror flic at all. It had it's creepy moments but I would classify this more along the lines of suspence. SSolid story, good momentum. And by the by, this actualy WAS based on a true story. Definatly worth a watch
Farfetched Actually Very Far Fetched But Watchable
The story is a bit silly and the very notion of it being based on a true account leads me to believe the person (or persons) who claim to have experienced this are stark raving lunatics.
Is it aliens? Is it ghosts?
NO it's a delusion.
Ok that's the bad points out of the way.
This is actually a very well made film with an original storyline and there are a few parts that will make you jump like you sat on a drawing pin.

look up the mothman and how many people saw this creature. How do you explain that? I hope if you saw something unexplained people react to you exactly like you have said and call you a stark raving lunatic.
I couldn't get into this movie when I was younger because it is long and you have to pay attention. I'm glad I gave it another chance though. It's really not bad. There was only 1 creepy part so as a horror fan I can't call this scary or a thriller but it's pretty good mystery.

Very nice movie I went to wva and (point pleasent) went to wear they shot the film and the statue of the mothman in the center of the town it was very nice took pictures. if you start askin questions about it around there they'll get a little tensed
A psychological thriller that asks important questions about a real, extremely bizarre series of events that frightened a West Virginia town in 1966-67.The many bizarre events that occurred in that quiet town on the banks of the Ohio river beginning in November, 1966 have puzzled and intrigued paranormal researchers for decades. And despite all the hype, publicity and scrutiny the events have received in concern with the release of the film The Mothman Prophecies, they are no closer to explaining what really happened.There is also a book by John Keel,which the film is based on.
just one they i can't understand. who categorizes these movies.. omg. stop bastardizing sci-fi genre by coupling it with fantasy. just because this movie has something unexplained does not make it sci-fi. where is the "science" in sci-fi in this movie. o well..
I avoided this movie for quite awhile just because the name made it seem stupid. Im so glad I finally watched it, I really enjoyed this film. Great stuff 4/5
The topic is that kind which could have been gone wrong..but here became something really mature and serious. The supernatural element from the movie became feasible. And because of this transforms the whole story much more realistic furthermore frightful.
I recommend this movie however just for those who doesn't really like the evident, palpable or down-to-earth stories and are seeking even more the ambiguous.
You don't find here stupid ghosts, splashing blood, senseless monsters. There is something..but nobody could specify it what is that..or is there anything at all? You will find here pure mystery.
Good movie..scary and great suspense! This is based on a true story and I went online to learn more about this crazy sucker and I guess hundreds of people reported seeing this flying mothman. Maybe it is some strange goth dude trying to scare people.
I am from Point Pleasant, WV and this movie is very accurate to the events that happened. (of course they happened a long time before I was born) I think it was done nicely, and even though it was not filmed in WV the sets are great and almost identical. I think the movie is really good and very accurate. Worth a watch!
Awful movie! I know it's based on true events and it can only get so exciting, but even so, it's not scary and kind of boring. Although if you're interested in learning about the mothman and it's sightings, it's a good watch, but other than that..2/5.
