Sorry I have to dissagree with the majority of glowing comments. I found this film to be a dissapointment. Too unrealistic & sickly sweet for my tastes. It was like The Waltons meets Little House on the Prairie! 5/10.
Mel Gibson before or behind the camera lens is all we can ask for in a great movie.
No matter the demons faces in his daily life, as a actor and/or director takes us all on a journey we can recall and reminisce of epic tales of his vision in cinema creation.
This premium work earns five stars in entertainment and our herald history as Americans.
Great movie! Great action scrpit writing directing and a great plot. They fictionalized the war but who cares? The story is powerful! Braveheart and Gladiator style big picture. One of my favorites. A super must see.
..especially if you are American. The British handled the political as well as the military situation very badly, and the colonists had a far better cause to fight for than their enemies. But the British did not behave like the worst of the Nazis as Mel would have us believe. He portrays the English in the same way in Braveheart, and in Gallipoli in which he starred but did not direct. it is implied that the Brits sent the Anzac forces to a meaningless death, although in fact the commanding officers that gave the order were Australian (one has a British accent to disguise that fact). That he has deep-seated prejudices was evident from the way he caused a scandal through anti-semitic comments when drunk. 8/10 nevertheless.
One can't help thinking about the sad death of Heath Ledger, but when you see his character in Monster Ball commit suicide himself, it's even more poignant.
American gung hoe trash, Heath Ledger is good and Mel Gibson is his usual over the top self. This war was won by poor British leadership and the help of the french, or you would be ruled by a Queen now.
Its sad, how you can ve ruled by president Obama now Great Britain is like a peace of cotton vs a train (America).
I'm sorry to know you didin't like the movie, but you dont have to talk trash about it, don't talk of what would "have happened" guess what it was lost, no matter what the reasons were, get over it buddy.
I don't like Mel Gibson. He bugs the crap outta me. :/ This is really cheesy also. They make the British stand there like puppets, and the Americans are all heroic and awesome. lol.. so redic. 1/5
Umm.. that's pretty much how the british fought at the time.. As was the entire point of the strategy of the americans in the film. Fighting at the time had "rules" and if they weren't followed (i.e. swamp wars) you were considered un-gentlemanly.. Not to say the American's didn't do the same thing as you saw as well.
Or maybe you're still under the impression that america is still a colony in which case I'm rather scared that your schooling has failed you tremendously.
mel gibson and heath ledger were awesome but in my opinion jason isaacs stole the show. he was the best villain EVER in this movie. if i saw him on the street i might punch him in the face. lol. he was that good
A great movie, a true classic.. Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger were awesome in this.. I have this movie in my DVD collection at home, it's a must see for anyone who loves action and war movies.. 10/10..
BTW- Most of the people trashing this movie, never gave it a chance because of their bias towards America. It's a great movie, watch it for what movies are supposed to be watched for "Entertainment"..
the first time I watched this movie, I was in the 8th grade. I had to watch it for my history class.
I loved it so much then that I had to buy went it was released onto dvd.
I overused the dvd, and now the movie doesn't work, so I watched it here.
Loved it.
You can tell if a movie is going to be good by looking at the extra's (actors) And thay are fantastic making this movie a must see over and over again Nice one Gibson
Love this movie. I watched it when we got surround sound and it was awesome. One of Mel Gibson's best movies and one of Heath Ledgers better roles. I give it a 5 out of 5
This is one of the first films I noticed Ledger - awesome talent. Gibson delivered another solid perfomance as well. Good film, learned a little from this as well. Worth the time to watch, good for the family. 4.5/5
