Wow..how ignorant can you be to say what is the point of this story? Are you serious? This story was nothing less than magnificent. I do admit there were parts that I felt uncomfortable because he was only 15, but the story was so compelling I couldn't stop watching. It's not just a story of a women who sleeps with a younger person..this is a story of guilt and shame that she learned to feel. She had a long time to think about the choices she made. This is truely sad..but a must watch 10/10
krrish420 - You don't know why this is called "The Reader"? Don't you think that was a reacurring thing in the movie? Maybe you need to put down that weed and watch movies with a clear mind..
maybe you felt uncomfortable but you admit you kept watching.soo maybe the act really doesnt bother you as much as you say. I think the story is about how much it screwed him up as well not just about her. but that is how most women would see this, "its all about them". well he paid as much as she( if not more) for the molesting she commited.
Somethings were a bit confusing to me but the comments here made them clear. Nudity was not necessary to tell a story of this kind. I wonder why they named this movie "The Reader." I mean I know that Kate's character was
Perhaps the hours of cassette tapes he READ+ sent to her in jail ! Or maybe the hours they spent in bed "naked" as he .."READ" to her might have something to do with it but I'm only guessing Perhaps you may have caught that if you were not so stoned or should I say so 420'd

Bravo! This film possess' many dynamics and themes you can ponder and walk away with after viewing it. Indeed well made.
This is not a child's film and it does have many adults components, but I believe they were relevant to the film -- He needed her as he grew into his own adulthood and in return she as well in her being limited emotionally.
There is a difference between pronography and artistic expression, I believe this was the latter.
Nothing says "control freak" like a barbed wire fence and a guard tower.
A competent yet slightly obvious period drama, the acting was excellent throughout though I felt the relationship between the two main characters lacked a little depth.
The production was excellent so this is a movie that I could watch again. 3/5

This story seems to be pointless,she is a selfish person who seems not to care about anyone but herself. He gets hurt by her as a teenager and this somehow is justification for him being cold and withdrawn his whole life? Being heartless is fine, just don't marry and have kids if you are. This is a story of two jerks,that is all.
It's sad that you watched this movie and missed pretty much all of its deeper messages about guilt and responsibility, love and pride, the political climate over the span of the history covered in the film.. i'll assume that you're very young and haven't developed any meta-awareness yet. try reading either some books or sticking to children's movies.
Watch only because of Kate's oscar. nice but slow, though i prefered Kate Winslet better in Titanic than here! The nudity was quite senseless but overall a nice dramatic and emotional drainage movie!! The last act of Kate winslet was worth it! 8/10 just for her acting!
Whatever the true motivation behind the telling of this story is, several things are cast very clear to me.
1.- The same quiet, never tell, turn a blindeye to obvious justice and facts of one people.
2.- The self-rightous unforgiving side of another.
AND,
3.- Hidden deep in all is a lesson that there is an evil lying next to a gentleness in us all.
A very odd movie. Almost boring, but for the fasination that we can ignore child molestation in the name of art.
The movie was moving. The acting was exceptional. However the nudity was way over the top. It was not even a little bit necessary for the movie. Kate could have won the Oscar without nudity.
finally they have started to make films about the other side of things all the films up till now germans as society painted out so evil i thought when i was a kid they were from another planet this film shows they have emotions, doubts and fears just like us i dont need to talk about the film oscars says it all
I actually thought I wouldn't like it that much, but wow!
I was intrigued from start to finish by whatever Hannah was doing that made her act that way.
I actually felt for the characters, it was amazing!
BTW, seeing Ralph Fiennes as somebody else than Voldemort or Heathcliff really made me feel weird, hahaha - but his eyes are amazing! God, he has such beautiful eyes!
Anyway, best film I've ever seen!

I thought this film was realy very good it shows that normal people are capable of terrible things if put in the right enviroment.
Yes the Nazi genocide of WW2 was the worst in history but the Russians under the banner of socalism also killed millions by starvation in the 1930`s and the Khmer Rouge in Camodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and I could go on. All of these atrocities were and are being carried out by (generaly) normal people who had normal lives until they found themself for whatever reason in this enviroment.
I thought this film showed that very well it`s not often a film leaves me thinking or feeling so much 10/10.
