This war film had a different feel to it.. which I found refreshing.
The dynamics of emotions that is experienced in a war setting is explored in every degree; the angel, demons and indefference is showcase here.
Therefore the are highs, and many lulls in this film, but the message is clear -- the is no glamour taking a hill, a beach or killing the enemy; you will feel empty inside for taking a life has no personal rewards.
I did not like this movie at all. I thought the guy talking was a wuss. If he had been in the military in my time he would be beat to death for being a sissy. ..not gay..just a wussy coward. I give it a one on any scale..It sucked.
4/5 stars, needed more charector development, i never felt like i got to know anybody, so i didnt care if they lived or died. nolte was great, but the other performances seemed lack luster. still a good film, and one of the classics. it blew my butt off a few times. LOL
This was very slow and had little action in it.
I don't agree with some of the comments that this was more realistic, the action sequences seemed a little unrealistic to me.

Like the part when the medic went running into the shooting to rescue the injured solider and got shot to pieces and when Woody Harrlesons character pulled the grenade pin out by accident.
This is NOT an action film, but if you are like me and look for films which will absolutely blow your mind - you will love this. I would put the cinematography of this up there with the likes of 2001: A Space Odyssey and the battle scenes and emotions conveyed are extremely realistic to war time. Many of the characters are explored in depth which makes the ordeal they have to go through all the more horrific to watch. Although it feels a tad unfinished, I adore this movie and would watch it over and over again. 5/5
starts out like old time war movie with more stars than orion. there is action but it gets pretty artsy in places and slows down to consided life. it's more a hmm movie, less of a wow. 4/5
Not as good as I thought it was going to be. There are a lot of characters so at parts it was hard to follow. Some boring parts but over all a pretty good movie. 3/5
Saving Private Ryan,Black Hawk Down, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, We Were Soldiers, and even Casualties of War..All far better war based movies then this. First off, their were too many cameos for big time famous actors, the lot and main story of the movie was a blur, and it was BORING.
I am not sure if is a good film, but it has strong realism, more like a documentary looking into aspects of war and emotions of soldiers, than the usual science fiction movie. It is romanticing war at the best, but a very moving film too. I thougth I would be very bored watching a movie that is almost 3 hours long, but I admit, I could even have watched another 3 hours. You will either be very bored, or love this film. It is a movie experience of different kind..
