who could possibly think this film was good? ok it did have a good cast, but why they would waste their talent in this kind of flop I'll never know, M. Night couldn't write a shopping list, "Signs" you say? lol, water lol, like all M Night movies a story that just drags until the crappy surprise ending, don't watch this movie, waste 2 hours of your life doing something more productive, like picking your nose or scratching your bum, 1/10 for the acting, but the rest just sucked.
I really don't like M. Night Shyamalan anymore. He's a one hit wonder who managed to carry himself on that one film (I see directors with no future) for entirely too long. This movie was slow, but fairly good until the end. The big unveiling at the end, which he really tried to make grandiose, was just outright stupid. It's not as if it was some unthinkable plot twist that stole my breath away.. It was just.. an ending to a long and slow paced movie. In other words, the big pay off that people expect from the ending of an M Night movie just wasn't there. It hasn't been in any of his movies since "Sixth Sense". Another thing that bothers me about M. Night films is that he almost always chooses the wrong actor for the part. The blind girl was really good and all of the other actors have done great work, but I think the director failed them all.
Oh yeah, and the M Night cameo is a waste of time. It should have been edited out, but his ridiculous ego forced him to keep it in. Not to be mean, but M Night hasn't earned the esteem to cameo in his own films. It's not fun or impressive.
i loved this movie im suprised i never came across it long before now but really glad i got the chance to watch it it has to be one of my fave movies now, 5/5
William Hurt and Bryce Howard were fabulous in this, also the sound track was excellent, and the cinematography with the unusual deep focus and camera angles are a good feature of this film, but the bottom line is that it is just a really good story that is very well written to take it's time to creep up on you. i suspect that some just don't understand it or they disagree with the message of the movie.
It is a great movie especially because it is such a cool story line and it is very different from other types of moives. Like other people are saying, the reason why some people don't like it is probably because they just don't understand it. You should watch it for yourself and see what you think.
I REALLY REALLY REALLY HATE THIS MOVIE! It is so boring, and stupid. A big waste of time. I'd rather be buried alive in used urinal cakes then ever watch this again. 0 out of 5, and may god have mercy on the creator's soul.
quite boring at the beginning..but still interesting..full of nice words. Actually the actions in the movie are very unexpected..especially if you don`t read any plot before. I did like the story and also the idea..It`s more the kind of movie that makes you think then one..that you`ll enjoy for the scenes.
I personally didnt not enjoy this movie I seen it all just didnt like it the ending was wack. The Village is a colossal miscalculation, a movie based on a premise that cannot support it, a premise so transparent it would be laughable were the movie not so deadly solemn .. To call the ending an anticlimax would be an insult not only to climaxes but to prefixes. It's a crummy secret, about one step up the ladder of narrative originality from It was all a dream. It's so witless, in fact, that when we do discover the secret, we want to rewind the film so we don't know the secret anymore." There were also comments that the film, while raising questions about conformity in a time of "evil", did little to "confront" those themes.[

A twist a bit over the middle of the movie, was a refreshment. I was interested the whole time. Nice acting.
Nice lesson in it to: you can't protect someone from the dangers in the world, how much you want to.
It's an ok film. The element of mystery is cool but the revelation makes it somewhat disappointing.
This is a character based story which pretty much renders it a drama.
I can't call it a horror.
However it was entertaining and I recommend it if you have nothing better to do than sit down and watch something different from the usual big budget blockbuster crap.

I personally loved it. It is a great original movie that acts as horror using drama and anxiety. It doesn't need the surprise scenes. Well worth a watch.
There are two types of people, the ones who love this movie, and the ones that hate this movie, well acted and a different storyline that is most enjoyable. A community of people who live in the middle of the woods far from society has settled here to bring their children up away from the perils of the outside world with religion intact..sound familiar ! Has its chilling moments that you should be quite satisfied with. If you like suspence this movie is for you. If you're looking for blood and gore, slashing and hacking then this movie is not for you, you would be better off watching "Friday The 13th Pt 26" or whatever the # is up to now. 4 out of 5 stars
