Okay, I don't like to post bad reviews but this is such a bad remake I can't help myself: SO BAD! There needed to be way more character development to make this movie work. It was like the producers just got lazy halfway through. This movie started out good, but it just went down hill from there. If you like to waste your time with lots of disappointment and thinking "wtf?" watch this movie. Okay, it's out of my system now -- I feel better.
this is so funny as its mis-cast and they have destroyed the movie, that said its unintentionally hilarious so for comedy reasons i give this film a 8/10 but as a serious movie it gets a 0/10! XD
I came into this thread specifically to tell all the people who love it that the original was ten times better, and to generally berate them and cause trouble and ill feeling lol. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered everybody knows it was crap compared to the original. This movie falls into every corny trap the original skilfully avoided.
Edward Woodward who died yesterday (16/11/09) at age 79 was a great and versatile actor, and an excellent singer too who produced a hit-number or two in the days when his name was a household word in the UK. The remake of the Wicker Man with Cage wouldn't have seemed too bad if there wasn't the infinitely better original to compare it with. The first one is suspenseful, realistic with its own perverted reality for which there are many ancient and some relatively recent models, sex, sensuality, music, and grim humour. Note when you see version 2 that Cage's policeman's name is Edward and the missing child's surname Woodward, a tribute to the now late lamented star of version 1. The inhabitants of the pagan island don't generally sound very Scottish, but not even I would understand everything they said if they did, and I suppose we must believe that palmettos and othe subtropical plants grow on the westen coast of Scotland (Gulf Stream, I suppose), because we are told that was the only location used - and that in a country where they sometimes stop cricket matches because of fog in mid-summer! (10/10)
NICHOLAS CAGE, you punky-BASTARD..! I hate what you've done here. So much so--that my initial rating if this film has gone down from a 2 of 5 to a ONE.
that's right. this movie got WORSE. Watch the original and see the way it was intended. Or you can watch this one and see LeLe Sobieski somehow look like she doesn't belong ANYWHERE.

and really liked the original Wicker Man film..
but Do NOT like this version at all!
In my opinion, your better off watching the Original Instead.
It was ok I guess .. not seen the original yet so cannot comment on wether this is better or not. Nicholas Cage is a bad actor, so perhaps it would have been better with another in his role. I rated 3/5
I thought this movie as leading in a pretty good direction, and then when I get to the end, I am saying WTF. Why would someone want to end it that way? I hope it wasn't a guy who created the ending if so why?
It had me going through the desert looking for water, and when I found it, it was a stale pond.
If the emotion this movie was going for was disappointment, then they got what they wanted with the ending.
err yeah..i think i changed my mind about being on a island full of women now..well i wouldn't stay for more than a couple of days then i would leave..those chicks are messed up lol..hopefully if i was to ever go to an island mainly populated by women they wouldn't want to **** me u know.
I'm sorry not even Nicholas Cage could make this interesting. By the time they cut to the chase you didn't even care about what happened cuz it took so long to get there nevertheless when it did get there it still sucked. 1/5
Lol I know i've seen this movie but all I can remember is being mad & thinking.."I wasted 2 hours for this??" I dont remember what it was about it that made me think that, but it prolly has to do with what you said about it taking so long to get to the point lol
This was one of the worst movies I've ever watched. I remember the trailer for it looking amazing but it was a total bomb and the ending was crap. 2/10 for me.
